❝ BONE ❞
───── အရိုး ─────the live radio had just been turned on, the piece of technology doing its job and filling the room with music.
even something like that could do its purpose properly with no mistakes.
the woman who had turned it on so late in the afternoon had slowly been recovering from the nightmare that had woken her up. a pair of eyes, dark ones. They judged her every night, worse each time she'd last see them whether it was in person or a dream.
not bothering to make her bed, she grabs any pair of jeans off of the floor and puts them on without much care, zipping them up when she was finished.
The 24-year-old didn't bother changing out of the shirt she slept in at all. it had been a while since she had changed out of it.
moving to the bottom of her drawers she took out a pair of socks, not bothered whether they were a set or mismatched she just slid them on swiftly.
she picks up her black windbreaker from the counter and puts it on, pacing herself to the front door of her apartment and sliding into her shoes, the ones she wore every day.
today marked the first day of spring, a date of the year she always would find herself staring at in the calendar until it arrived.
she was told that after the harsh winters people would face, they would later be met with spring, their chance to rebook and leave behind the hurt they felt from winter.
she thought about it continuously, which was what led her to continue living for 5 more springs after what happened.
dying in spring, to die and be reborn, to fully bloom. for things to get better.
the door to the woman's small apartment is momentarily opened before she exits, slamming the door behind her.
every night before she would relive her nightmares, she'd think about her conversation with Ghost, the one they shared late after a mission.
that time, he kept prying into her life, asking her what her regrets were, and what she wanted to do. even then, she felt as much regret as she does now.
back then, she regretted the choices she made before joining the military. but now, in the present, all she regrets is how she didn't ask the masked man to help her.
the city was still cold but even the woman could tell by just looking at the patches of grass, naked dry trees, and grey skies, that spring was taking its effect. they'd bloom swiftly and beautifully, fully.
on her walk to her local pharmacy, she observes the strangers around her. the families who didn't suffer the least no matter what season it was, the people who were fully bloomed all year.
the idea of having a family crossed her mind sometimes but didn't last long. her mother, a filthy drug addict who had unintentionally killed herself with an overdose, following the same steps as her late mother.
it was pitiful, how the Bone's mother followed in the steps she swore not to. just as pitiful as Bone continued to call herself by her calling despite being discharged from the army so long ago.
that only made y/n realize how strong DNA was. no matter how much you try, you can't escape the fact you'd end up just like them. Bone came to understand this once she saw the glory of being intoxicated rather than sober.
so, how could she have a family? following the steps of her mother, she would raise a child who was just like her when she was young. it was destined to happen.
