Unixy's POV

The plane lands with a small thud on the smooth runway. I thought, the most stereotypical thing I could've, and assumed that it would be snowing when we arrived, but no.

Just rain. I'm completely okay with that.

I mean, I get enough rain back home in New Orleans.

"Don't forget your bag, Unixy." Sal says, stepping out of the plane and walking over to open my door.

"Thank you, Sal." My feet land on the ground, as I jump, leaving droplets of water on the tops of my shoes. I've been insanely nervous ever since Mike told me where I'd be living, and right now, I can feel my heart beating in my throat- my stomach full of butterflies.

The sound of an engine revving bounces off the trees surrounding the hangar which looks to big enough to house three or four biplanes. A middle aged woman climbs out of a black mustang that appears pristinely clean. She sets down something in her front seat before looking up at us and walking over.

"Hello, Unixy. My name is Laurie." Laurie smiles and I return it.

"Hi, Laurie." She holds out her hand, but not in the form of a way to shake hands. I don't put two and two together until I realize she's offering to take my backpack for me. Attempting to shrug it off my shoulders, I hand it to my grandmother.

"Would you like to see your new home?"

"Sure." I nod. Laurie's grin widens and we both hop in the car.

"There's school tomorrow, if you want to go. It's up to you when you want to start up again this soon. If not, I can let the principal know and we'll push back the-"

"No, it's okay." I laugh softly. "I'm good with going."

"Okay, dear. I know what you must be feeling, I mean I lost my daughter and son-in-law." Laurie sighs and runs a hand through her curly hair. "I just really hope that this will an opportunity for us to become closer and..." I can hear the sadness in her voice as she continues. "If you ever want to talk or if you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask."

"I will. Thanks." I smile sadly. She reaches over and grips my hand tightly. I do the same before she takes her hand back to place it on the wheel. A silence settles in the car, but it's not awkward; more so comfortable than anything. A much needed silence from the past few hours of noise. We pass the entrance sign to the town, and I take notice to the population.

100,000 people live in this tiny town. And from the looks of it so far, it is a tiny town.

"There's a bakery over there, and that's the bank." Laurie breaks the silence and points to two small buildings. However, it's exactly how I pictured everything. "And that's the high school." We pass by an absolutely enormous high school with the appearance that resembles a castle, almost. A football field, tennis court, outdoor basketball court can all be seen from the road. I watch a group of guys play football as the car drives by at a slower speed. A few of their heads turn, seemingly sensing my eyes. About ten minutes later, we pull up at a large two story cabin.
