The message of the song is about the need to be saved from this darkness. This darkness that has consumed them for a long time. They are crying out for a savior. They want to feel loved again. They don't want to go back to being alone which is why they are calling for you. You are the light in the darkness, the one that gives them hope and joy. You give them that peace they are looking for. In the bridge RM thanks you for being there for him and for embracing his true self. In the end he said, "Thank you for being us."
Unlike their title track, BTS wanted to show their emotional side, their vulnerable side. It was like I Need U all over again.
