Head cannons abt Herald's parents
Riff's parents:

His parents were each other's first relationship and were dating since a very young age but just like any first relationship, it didn't end well

They were both royal soldiers, they would take turns on protecting the castle and staying home.

Riff's dad didn't want children so in his eyes, when Finna and Riff were born he just saw them as mistakes

Riff's mom was completely different. She was diagnosed with infertility so she had lost hope on having a child so therefore, in her eyes Riff and Finna were miracles.

After Riff and his sister were born, Riff's dad started drinking when not in duty.

He was one of those violent drunks too do he would hit Riff's mom, occasionally Riff and Finna too.

They soon got a divorce and Riff's dad was reported about his behavior. He was kicked out from being a royal guard and isn't allowed near his kids anymore, he is also in rehab.
