A growling stomach could be heard echoing through the cellar. Yukiji was sitting in the middle of the room, tied to the chains so that she wouldn't get the idea to leave.
It had been hours, maybe even a day, since the girl had been here. So far, her father had not come to see her, so Yukiji knew that she must be weaker for the time being.
Her hunger was growing, however. Her ears heard nothing but that sound. She wondered how Sanji had fared during this period. Was he hungry then too, or had he lasted a little longer?
Scratching noises arose, causing the girl's gray eyes to turn to the other side of the room. Rats were running around, looking for something to eat for themselves. They were probably doing exactly the same as her. However, rats could live on scraps and could always find something somehow.
Yukiji bit her lip hard. No matter what she continued to think here. Nothing would satisfy her hunger. With that done, Yukiji lowered her head and waited until she could get out of here.
"So, are you aware that the kitchen or cleaning service is only for servants?" asked her father, who had appeared. Yukiji could only raise her head slightly and felt her pale face.
She was tired, almost famished. She was cold and her arms and legs ached. The chains around her joints cut into her skin.
"Today is the day, my dear Yukiji." spoke her father, who had knelt down to her. "You still have a lot to learn and train. But you can't do that without changing your genes." he continued and took something out of a small box.
"Each of your siblings had to go through this. It makes you stronger, Yukiji." he revealed to her. The girl couldn't even swallow, her throat was so dry.
So the syringe in his hand was for gene manipulation. An experiment that everyone had to undergo. Her mother could never stop all this. Her father was far too obsessed with gaining strength.
"So my little Yukiji. From today onwards, you will become even stronger than ever before. And I'm warning you. Don't you dare stab me in the back." she heard her father say before the syringe reached her skin and was inserted.
Yukiji clenched her teeth briefly as the liquid was pumped into her body. From that moment on, the girl couldn't help but scream out loud.
