Engfa's POV

It has been two weeks since the event and I thought things would change, Charlotte and I would get closer to one another, but that didn't happen. Instead, the opposite happened. We barely talk, she only talks to me when it is about work, she doesn't even look me in the eye, and she no longer stays late at work like she used to, she actually leaves earlier. I no longer know what to do because I know I messed it up and I want to make things go back to normal, I regret giving her that kiss because I scared her and that is the last thing I wanted.

Today was a Friday afternoon and I was in my office trying to finish work so that I could leave early today to go to my mom's house for the weekend. I was evaluating some new cases that we were going to receive next week when I heard a few knocks on my door, I looked up and it was Aoom.

"Hi, what brings you here? Is there a problem we need to deal with?" I asked in a curious tone. Aoom doesn't really come into my office to talk to me, normally we talk in the common meeting room.

"To be honest I don't know if there is a problem or not. All I know is that my best friend is not being herself at work and that it somehow has to do with you. I have tried to talk to her for the past week and a half about it but she blows it off. So now I am here sitting in your office asking you to tell me what is going on because somehow this has to do with you and honestly you are my last resort," she said in a sincere tone

"To be honest I don't know how I can be much of help because Charlotte hasn't talked to me for the past two weeks unless you count her talking to me about work while we are all together in our joint meeting room," I said as I looked at her straight in the eye

Aoom let out a frustrated sigh and moved her head to look at the ceiling as my answer was clearly of no help to her.

"Anyway, you are here talking to me, most likely without Charlotte knowing. So you clearly waited for her to leave to go somewhere so you could come. So where is she?" I asked

"She went to the pediatrics unit to check on the kids and their families like she always does every once in a while. I think it helps her think and get her mind cleared," Aoom said

"Yeah, it does help her, she once told me that she does it because it helps her remind herself why all the sacrifices that she has made are worth it," I said as I stared at the ceiling just like Aoom thinking about the conversations I used to have with Charlotte.

I then remembered that I had to make a call to Plaifa so I picked up my phone, called her, and put her on speaker so that Aoom could hear.

"Hey, Plai are you about to go into surgery or a meeting?" I asked while looking at Aoom who had a confused face

"No, I am just doing my rounds through the hallways as usual, checking on patient charts. Why? What do you want me to do this time?" she asked

"Nothing, just go and check on Charlotte, she is somewhere in the area checking on the patients and their families and maybe she could use a professional opinion regarding some cases," I said hoping that she would do it

"Uhh, fine I'll do it, only because you are asking me to but sooner or later you are going to have to tell me what happened between you two after the party," she said

Aoom gave me a confused and intrigued look which made me realize I was in trouble

"Okay, fine but just go and please don't tell her I called you," I said

"Yeah, I know the drill, this isn't the first time you have asked me to do this," she said

"Okay bye, love you, see you at Mom's house," I said
