"It'll be OK Lilla" Her brunette brother, older by 2 years, whispered back encouragingly, though he sounded scared himself, despite his age.
The two children were hiding behind the orange, tattered sofa. Their parents, meanwhile, screamed at eachother. All they could do was listen, as their mum and dad fought eachother.
They listened to the slap.
They listened to the bookcase fall over.
They listened to a sound that sounded horribly like glass smashing as the coffee table fell over.
They listened to the front door slam.
They listened to the back door slam.
