Chapter 35

"Gregory! Anything?" Chica called into the vents ten minutes later. Crawling out, Gregory shook his head. Dusting cobwebs off his arms and clothes, the twelve year old boy pointed out, "Nothing. But I did hear noises inside there. Sounds like DJ is up to something. Maybe she followed them." Flinching, the chicken animatronic chirped, "Oh I hope not. She can't go down there yet."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Gregory questioned, raising one eyebrow. Before Chica could answer or think of an excuse, the doors swung open. Walking in with Pedro by her side, Roxy shook her head and muttered, "Nothing! Chica, I will put a GPS tracker on Grace, I swear to Scott I will!"

"I don't blame you, I might have to do that myself," Chica replied, laughing nervously. The chicken animatronic was obviously changing the topic, Gregory could tell. Getting up to his feet, the kid ran for the stairs as he called over his shoulder, "DJ is up to something downstairs, Gracie must've headed that way through the vents!" Gasping, Chica chased after him as she clucked, "Gregory! We can't go down there yet!"

"Oh shoot. Freddy!" Roxy barked into her comm device, "Freddy, we got a breach!" Running alongside his mother with his new legs, Pedro raised an eyebrow at the wolf and questioned her, "What does that mean?" Realizing her mistake, Roxy could only muster a nervous smile for her son. All the while, they continued chasing down Gregory and Chica.

"Gregory, please wait! I don't think they're ready yet!" Chica shouted. Her cry fell on deaf ears though as Gregory slid down the staircase railing and bolted towards DJ's room. Arriving at the doors, he kicked them open and called out, "Gracie! Are you here?" Stopping in his tracks, the boy added, "Dad? Vanessa? What are you doing here?"

"Oh, hello Gregory!" Freddy greeted Gregory with a friendly hand wave. He and Vanessa were in the middle of setting up a snack table. The security guard in question was holding Grace while staring at Gregory with a mix of surprise and horror. Behind them, DJ was going about his day blowing up balloons. The whole dance floor was clearly being decorated for a party. Glancing around the room nervously, Freddy asked, "Whatcha... whatcha doing superstar?"

"Freddy! We're so sorry! We tried!" Chica yelled, finally arriving with Roxy and Pedro. Holding her side, she wheezed, "Man I'm out of shape." Walking over to the robot, Vanessa handed Grace over as she murmured, "I think this belongs to you." The chicken took the child gratefully. Meanwhile, Gregory went up to his animatronic dad and asked, "Is it someone's birthday today?"

"Nah, this is just a normal party for you and the other kiddos," Freddy answered. Kneeling down before the child, the bear explained, "Y'all have lived here with us for quite some time now, we're all a family." Lowering his gaze to the floor, the animatronic added, "I just wanted to commemorate that with a party in your guys' honor and make you feel more at home-"

"Thank you Dad," Gregory interrupted Freddy with a hug. Startled at first, the bear animatronic returned the embrace as he mumbled, "You're welcome my superstar."
