City Sacament

Cityscape in my rearview, expressway west a vertiginous stew,
The lakeshore helps me keep locked on, the fast lane to Hamilton,
Rat race however follows, within my mind it fills the hollows,
Swirling about on its own, destined to cast shadow on reality tone,

I drive faster determined to see my steady, this girl has me speeding with palms sweaty,
I can almost smell tragedy in the air, you know it when you feel it like atmospheric despair,
Then I hear it, a voice on the wind,
Whispering instructions to change the lane  I'm in,
No sooner did I signal and turn wheel, the car in front of me did something surreal,

He darted cross four lanes of commuters, colliding head on with a merging police cruiser,
I wiped my brow as I caught the explosion, that Buick and squad car welded in slow motion,
I thought to myself I'm lucky in love, I've been bestowed a gift from almighty above,
Little did I know my lady's luck had run out, She'd been arrested in a shopping mall bout,

You see she was sat in back of the black and white, handcuffed for a scuffle barely a fight,
Who could I blame for this misfortune, I cursed the cops for this disproportion,
What had she done so heinous to deserve, this officer to act out all that occurred,
I know he was just doing his job, but it was me that had his future robbed,

I can't lay charges though for my insufferable loss, maybe this is what true happiness cost,
For any heavenly joy experienced as human, the devil gets his due and interjects doom in,
When I reached her house on the escarpment, I answered my phone and collapsed as my heart went,
I clutched at my chest as I was told of the accidents, my baby was gone a victim of happenstance.
