I ran over to Carter's car! I couldn't wait to see him, and Madison. I noticed Madison wasn't in the passenger seat. Maybe she was going to meet us at the bus pick up point or something?
I walked to the boot, to dump my luggage. Madison's stuff was there, so Carter was just driving it over for her? I walked to the passenger seat, taking advantage of Madison's absence.
"Hey" greeted Carter, "Hi" I replied. I smelt a lingering scent of cologne in the air. It must be Carter but I'd never noticed him wearing any before.
"BOO" Madison jumped out of the back seat, practically attacking me.
Still shaken and trembling I hissed "Shit Madison, you scared the living daylight out of me!"
"Sorry," She whispered. I could tell I reacted a bit too aggressively.
We sat the rest of the car ride in almost absolute silence. The only noise was Madison occasionally laughing at her phone. I think she was texting someone but I had no idea who. I looked over at Carter instead, he was focused on the road like his life depended on it. What a great start to the summer.
