"Does it always feel like this?" You mumbled sleepily.
"What?" The voice asked.
''Being held, being hugged.'' You answer the kind voice.
"How come you don't know that." You almost didn't catch it. The Voice was speaking so softly as if afraid to raise the volume, afraid of what would happen if that control was gone.
"I see people's memories when I touch them."
The Voice doesn't interrupt you can't even hear it's thought. Still you continue, as if in a trance. The words you had guarded all your life leaving you the minute someone showed you a path to a normal life.
Maybe your powers were gone for good.
"In the beginning, it's only memories of sorrow and pain. Then resignations, betrayals, and everything that's broken. It's too much to feel anything else. So I stopped touching people all together. So that it won't hurt as much." You can't help the sob that comes with it.
"It's okay Y/n you don't need to worry about that anymore." The Voice tells you.
You believe it. Seconds pass. Then, minutes. The Voice stays silent. But you want to hear it so you try to come up with something to say.
"What did it mean?" You ask him very sleepy from his arms as you settle yourself better.
"What did what meant?" The Voice asks right back. Is it always so soothing? So soft and loving?
This had to be a dream. There was no other explanation for it.
"You said something like Mu dyr whatever whatever." You ask again.
He huffs a laugh. And somehow, the sound is melodious. Like music. You giggle at the thought of a man with a musical laugh. The sleep is all gone as you turn to look back at him.
It's real. It's real. Oh my god! This is real.
"You have the most beautiful eyes." Loki tells you. Looking at you funny. Like you are someone else entirely.
"You have a beautiful voice." You tell him right back. Settling yourself better in his arms.
"Thank you." He says. And adds as if this is what he would have said if you hadn't interrupted him, "I would have run away, you know. From the orphanage. I ran away even from Asgard many times."
"Where would I go? On the streets?" You answer his silent question.
"You could have used your powers." He points out.
"I was afraid of them." You explain.
He doesn't say anything. You know you should get up.
But... well, you won't until he tells you to get up himself.
"How come I can't see your memories?" You ask after a while.
"It's a secret." He whispers in your ear.
"Well, I can still read your mind." You remind him.
He stiffens at that.
"Not that I am doing it, but I could. If you don't share your secret." You say the last part playfully. Trying to diffuse the tension.
You look back at him.
And his smile is so mischievous. You know you are getting an absurd answer.
He leans down towards your face, his cold breaths chilling your being as you realise just how vulnerable you are here. Just how breakable you are to him.
