Sam.

Liv's silence really unnerved me.

Usually, she'd crack a horrible joke or laugh or smile. It was odd to see her do none of those things. Instead, she sat, she walked, she tried to smile, but it was all sad.

If someone accidentally picked up her umbrella without realizing it was hers, she'd tap them on the shoulder and would say that they picked up the wrong umbrella. Their expression would turn mortified with a hurried apology and she'd give an it's okay smile, but that was only to be polite.

If someone accidentally (not on purpose) butted themselves in front of the cafeteria line, she'd tap them on the shoulder and would guide them to the back of the line with a tired smile.

The smiles were all tired though. They were sad.

So sad.

It was like they could drop tears at the edges of her mouth because they couldn't afford to shed them from her eyes.

We walked together after and before classes, but she was distant.

It made me sad.

Sad that she lost something.

The bell chimed and we were dismissed. I tapped her on the shoulder.

"Hey, can we talk?"

+++++

We walked.

We walked.

We were silent.

Once we reached secluded corner of the school.

She collapsed.

She cried.

Asked how we ever be what we were

if the place that made us who we are

is gone.
