Chapter 17: A Dance With Death, the Debriefing, and A Dark Adaptation

A blood-red blur zooms through the territory of the campus of Beacon Academy. The blur soon slows down at the entrance of the CCT tower and reveals me to be in the form of a blood-red beowolf on all fours as Blake is on my back and is given a ride. We see the entrance where the armed guards supposed to defend it are knocked out on the ground.

Blake: Damn! We're too late! *Gets off of me*

Carrion: Not just yet. *I transform to my human form* You try to catch her from below. I'll intercept her at the top.

Blake: Got it!

Blake heads through the doors while I use the claws I shapeshifted to climb up the walls. I quickly get to the top and peek in through a window. I see the trespasser typing away at one of the terminals of the CCT tower. I pull out my scroll and call Blake.

Carrion: Blake. I'm at the top. Where are you?

Blake: Coming up the elevator. What?

Carrion: The trespasser is at one of the terminals here. I think she's hacking it.

Blake: Wait, the intruder is hacking one of the CCT's terminals and is a "she"?

Carrion: Yep and yep. And I have a plan. Just cut a hole in the elevator and climb up to me to "tighten the noose". 

I hang up my scroll and turn invisible. I climb further up the tower to the top and find a service hatch. I enter and use my shapeshifting power to slither through the intricate wiring and vents to the room the trespasser is in. 

Carrion's Mind: There you are...now then...

Deliberately, I began drooling a bit and the drops landed right on the trespasser's hand. She slowly looks up and sees a myriad of razor-sharp teeth and blood-red flesh above her.

Carrion: Boo!

I dive down to the trespasser, ready to devour her. She dodges out of the way and sees me in all my terrifying glory. I look at the monitor of the computer the trespasser was hacking and see the image of a black queen chess piece. I then remember a phrase I heard before.

Flashback

Ironwood: If what Qrow says is true, that the "queen has pawns"...

Flashback end

Carrion: I wonder what you were trying to do...

The trespasser merely responds with silence, summons a dagger lined with fire, and throws it at me. 

I dodge the thrown weapon to the side without taking another step before turning my hand into claws and swinging my body back to the hacked terminal, smashing through the screen with my claws. The trespasser is visibly shocked by the turn of events as I am electrocuted by the electricity that runs through the terminal.

Carrion: AWDFBNSERGHDHJR%TFBSGNGSFAGEJ@T#W%HXDrW%W%YIKI<HSEGSERHDTYJE^?U>K>:<TWTPIGJSRNDH!!!!!!!!!

Suddenly, the power of the entire tower, from the lights to the other terminals begins to flicker and die. Then, the whole place goes dark with only a slight ray of moonlight coming through the window. I quickly go invisible, jump to the ceiling, and stick there, avoiding the intruder's sight. She now regrets not bringing night vision goggles...

Carrion's Mind: *Invisible* Ok. Whatever she did to that terminal should be all for naught now. All that's left is to kill this hacker bitch...

As I stalk the masked intruder, we hear the elevator door get pried open and the trespasser throws a dagger at it, the thrown weapon stabbing into a certain poor black cat. But it immediately disappears as it's a clone and the real deal dashes through and shoots a few shots at the intruder with her Gambol Shroud before taking cover.
