Friend who left

Once upon a time, decades ago, When I met you, dear friend, You welcomed me to a new school, Made me feel welcome, till the end.

Together we laughed, together we cried, But never fought, side by side. We talked about everything and all, As we walked through life's sprawling hall.

In those days of discmans and tapes, No social media, just real escapes. No filters, just raw and true, In those moments, just me and you.

Then came the news, a cruel twist, My heart stopped, clenched in a fist. Cancer's grip, relentless and cruel, Took you away, my dear jewel.

I was far away when you left, Didn't say goodbye, felt bereft. But know, dear friend, every day, Thoughts of you never fade away.

I talk to you, though you're not here, In my heart, you're always near. I know you're in a brighter space, Your soul pure, your spirit's grace.

So, till we meet again, my friend who left, In the realms where hearts find rest, Know that here, on this earthly plane, Your memory forever shall remain.
