"What exactly is Nothingness?" asked Beyond softly.

L swung himself up on the bed, causing the bed frame to shake slightly. He looked out of place, a sign of life in a place of abandonment and decay. He was movement in a still place, an anomaly that shouldn't exist. L rested his back against the wall, pulling his legs to chest. He gestured for Beyond to join him, and Beyond climbed up on the bed next to him. "I'm actually not sure what Nothingness is. I think you'd have to ask Light-kun."

"You don't have to keep calling him that," replied Beyond irritably. He understood that L had to be respectful in the presence of the Taskforce, but there was no need to keep up the charades here. Beyond would be satisfied if L never mentioned Light's name, even if it would be incredibly hard with said... brat lingering nearby.

"Why not?" muttered L with a pout. "It sounds cute."

"He killed you," declared Beyond, waving his hand in Light's general direction. He didn't want to look at Light unless he had to.

"And you killed him," replied L with a shrug. "Are you jealous? Would you like a special nickname?"

"No," answered Beyond quickly, blushing at the thought of having a special nickname. He found it odd that he was able to blush. He thought that such sensation wouldn't exist in a place called Nothingness. "Yagami, what do you know of this place?"

"Not much," mumbled Light.

Beyond looked around to find where Light was standing, annoyed at how soft-spoken he suddenly was. He could scream about being the God of the New World, but he refused to speak up to share pertinent information. It figured that Light Yagami, a spoiled, pampered brat, would act like that. Beyond was more surprised to find Light at the side of the bed, kneeling. His hair hung in his eyes, although he made no move to flick it away. Upon closer inspection, Beyond noticed that Light's eyes were closed. With his fingers curled together, Light looked as though he could have been in prayer. Beyond completely dismissed the idea when he remembered it was Light he was thinking about. He hated to give Light any sort of credit or deeper personality.

But... Light looked awful nice in that position. Beyond thought that Light was meant to kneel before him and L, not to try and rule over them. Part of it had to do with the fact that Light had surrendered to them without a word, automatically knowing his place was at their feet, not at their side. The bigger part of it had to do with the fact that Light had always been incredibly beautiful, and Beyond had always been faintly curious about him. Light had played into one of Beyond's biggest fantasies, and Beyond didn't have the energy to figure out if Light had done it intentionally. The only thing that could have made this better, in Beyond's more erotic view, would be swollen lips and dark hickeys on Light's neck. Beyond found himself suddenly able to forgive Light for his soft tone.

"Anything is better than nothing, Light-kun," responded L, moving on the bed so that he could stroke Light's cheek gently. Light leaned into L's touch, letting out a soft noise that sounded almost like a moan. "You can do it."

"I... yes," agreed Light suddenly, nodding along eagerly. "The Death Note mentioned that anyone who used it couldn't go to Heaven or Hell. At the same time, it seemed to imply that no one could go there. I thought I'd go to Purgatory."

"Very good, Light-kun."

Light purred, eating up the gentle praise that L offered him. Fascinating. "I... never mind. Ryuk never really mentioned the specifics of where I would go. He mentioned the world he came from a few times."

"Ryuk was your Shinigami, right?" questioned Beyond, thinking of the tall, homely creature that called itself Ryuk. Beyond wasn't sure how he was able to see him, though he credited it to his strange eyes. Ryuk was a rather goofy being, although Beyond saw the potential for cruelty beneath Ryuk's foolish exterior. Ryuk wanted to be entertained, and he would do whatever it took to find someone willing to give him a show.
