Oh, and I almost forgot! I did redo that art at the beginning for the Rainbow Friends. It looks better now.

//CHAPTER 12.3

Orange

Whispers of vulnerability find solace,

In the gentle embrace of understanding.

A silent promise of loyalty unspoken,

An unbreakable thread of trust weaves between us.

.............................................

The two of them had managed to make it back to the starting area with the bag of sugar.

Orange had been looking over his shoulder constantly to make sure that his new friend, who he now knew the identity of, was safe.

Orange had overheard Red talking to Cyan once. He had told her, "If you name something, then you become attached to it."

At the time, he hadn't understood what it meant, but now, he did.

Although he had obviously not been the one to name Elise, being able to talk with her and address her with a name seemed to make things less awkward between the two of them. Misunderstandings between them would be much less common now.

Orange recalled that Blue had been the one to propose the name for Chase. He supposed that they had all grown quite attached to the boy, even more so once they had a name for him.

He was once again reminded of his horrible misdeeds, and glanced back at Elise, hoping that she didn't notice him zoning out as he walked.

Elise didn't seem to pick up on it, as she smiled back at him when he looked at her.

As the two entered the clearing, they saw that the Lookie pen, along with all of the Lookies, had disappeared. In its place was a table with various objects on top.

"The Lookies were just here!" Orange exclaimed, gesturing with his claws to the spot where they had once been located. Elise frowned as she saw the table, but didn't seem quite as shocked as Orange had been.

"Well...I guess this is where we put the sugar." She said, opening the bag and pouring the sweet-smelling sugar into the bowl.

Orange watched curiously as he saw that there was already some sugar in the bowl. "I guess someone else has already found some." He said.

Elise nodded. "Stella's been running around finding a lot of things. She's been almost completely fearless once we escaped the weird factory."

Orange tilted his head, confused. "Stella?" He questioned, testing out the name. If there was one thing he noticed right away, it was that all of the humans had some really weird names.

What even was a stella? Was it just a random noise that humans had come up with?

Orange decided to not mention it as Elise nodded again. "Yeah. She was the one that you saw earlier. I think she tried to pet you."

Orange's eyes widened. "Oh...her." He said, remembering how bold she had been. He truly wasn't a fan of her wild attempt to treat Orange like one of Cyan's little pets.

Elise seemed to notice his sudden displeasure. "I mean...I could tell her that you'll bite." She said hesitantly.

Orange reached up and rubbed the back of his neck nervously, "No..." He said, "It's...fine. I don't want her to be scared of me." Orange said, trying to seem neutral about it.

Elise didn't push it any further, but did pat him on the shoulder. "It's fine. We'll just go find some more sugar. I haven't looked around the ferris wheel yet." She responded, starting to walk past him.

Orange looked around, calling out to her as she kept walking. "Erm...Elise? I can't go over there..." He told her, trailing off as she turned around.

"Huh? Why not?" She said, putting one hand on her hip.

"Well...you see, I can't be spotted by any of the cameras." Orange said, fiddling with his claws nervously. "Most of them are over on that side, closer to the security room."

Elise was silent for a moment. "Well then what if I go over there alone? You wait here, keep an eye out." She said.

Orange leaned forwards, waving his claws in the air frantically. "No! You can't go alone!"

Elise seemed to be thinking for herself for a moment before she spoke, "I won't be long." She said, and Orange felt a surge of frustration at her relentlessness.

"I-I can't let you leave! What if you die and I never find out?" Orange asked, staring at her in the eyes.

Elise froze as she heard the tone of his voice. She seemed to be considering things as she stared back at him.

Just then, Cyan began to walk in their direction, appearing around the corner of the hedges.

Orange was quick to react this time as he grabbed Elise and dragged her into the small brick building that they were standing in front of. He shoved her into the corner and the both stayed silent as they waited.

Orange glanced down at Elise as neither of them dared to speak a word. After only a couple moments, Cyan had passed, leaving the two in silence again.

Elise slowly looked up at Orange with a strange look on her face. "You...you really do care about me...Why?" Elise asked quietly. "Why do you keep saving me like that?"

Orange slowly stood up, also helping her up as they saw the coast was clear again. "It's...it's a really long story." He said with a small laugh.

"Let's just say that I became emotionally attached." He said, smiling at her as he exited the building. Elise paused for a moment, and then smiled back.

Orange was glad that he had been able to save her. His doubts from earlier had vanished, almost as if they had never been there.

"Well...I guess we could check down in Purple's lair again-" Elise started, but was cut off by Orange.

"No! Not that again, please." Orange said, and Elise sighed.

"We can't just wait around. We have to help out." She said, resting her hand on his shoulder. Orange thought to himself for a moment.

He was thinking about all of the spots where he had seen cameras, and all of the spots he had not seen them.

"What about Blue's castle?" Orange asked. "There aren't any cameras in that area, and we never checked inside of it. I'm sure there would be some sugar." He suggested.

Elise considered his suggestion and nodded. "Sure." She turned to head off in the other direction. Orange followed her this time, relieved that they could now plan out their next moves together instead of constantly gesturing wildly at each other.

Now that they could look out for each other, Orange knew that keeping Elise safe was going to be easier than ever. All he had to do was make sure that he didn't mess up, and pray that they didn't get extremely unlucky.

They were so close, Orange could feel it. He was actually doing this.

He couldn't afford to mess up now.
