Aphrodite floated down Olympus' hallways, the ancient pillars reflected those of thousands of temples built in the gods' names across the centuries.
Arched doorways and floral arrangements were scattered throughout the areas. Her presence has been requested. Well, more like she had travelled here on her own accord, but the goddess of love was never going to admit it.
For the first time in millennia, she was breaking her own rules. She had promised, no meddling with the love stories of the gods. Yet, here she was.
Her excuse if questioned ever, she wasn't meddling with the story, she was making it.
She could see it in her mind's eye. In the underworld, one of her favourite pairs, Achilles and Patroclus. They wandered around aimlessly through the fields.
Then she had an excellent idea, as she would have said. She was going to personally oversee the greatest love story of all time.
And it would not be a tragedy.
At least, she had to make sure it wouldn't be. She had travelled to go to Pythia, the Oracle of Delphi.
She was met with no actual response except a single dying forget-me-not.
And she understood what it meant. This was not just any great story.
This one had to be the legendary one.
For if this went wrong, one wrong move on the chessboard of love, the world and the gods would face disastrous consequences.
She currently glared at the wall in front of her. There was ivy climbing over it and blooming forget-me-nots at the bottom. While flowers still speak not. And ivy does not move. Yet there was a faint sound of rustling leaves and the drops of soft summer rain as they as they cascaded from the heavens above.
She brought out the dead flower from her pocket and placed it at the very bottom. There was a quote carved into the marble below.
"vivamus, moriendum est"
Let us live, for we must die.
She held out her hand and watched as the ivy moved down and towards her and dropping a single golden star in her clasp.
When the spark of light is set ablaze
The child of summer finds her wayAnother hero, reborn again
Achilles and Perseus walk the world condemnedWhen Patroclus is at his very end
When summer finds it's way too deep
The wielder of the sun shall fall in as wellThrough a love that is written in the stars
A hero to rise or fall in the final hourThe words appeared in gold as the star floated up. Aphrodite watched as the words burned in the air and the star dropped right into her hand, now as a golden ring with a star on it.
This was a crisis. And Aphrodite was in charge of making sure it didn't end up in disaster.
Her face crinkled as worry sank in. What if she failed. But a small smile began to form. She had a plan.
After all this prophecy was in her domain since it was about the god of prophesy himself.
She swore right there and then.
"I swear on the River Styx that this legend will end in peace and not tragedy."
Thunder rumbled in the distance as down below in Tartarus, Styx raised her bottomless eyes and caught the gold star that had drifted into her hand.
This story would be legendary.
The world relied on it to be.
