There was a broken silence.
It seemed to echo of shattered hearts and a thousand sonnets of poetry that were passed between two souls.
Yet there was nothing to speak of today.
Ashlyn Roy knew who she was. She was A Daughter of Auxo, a child of prophecy, a poet, a dreamer.
She knew that. She also knew there was a girl before her. A girl who was brave and fearless. A girl who dared to love. A girl who held the severed head of a child as she weeped. A girl whose story was a broken love song.
A girl who died a millennium ago.
Dawn Roy was a mystery to Ash.
She was the annotation made in a classic novel that had been erased over time. She was the missing piece of your soul you didn't find until your deathbed. She was dead.
She raised her eyes to meet bright blue ones. They whispered an intricate love story woven over time and twinkled with the stars. But shrouding their brilliance was a blanket of misery.
And heartbreak.
Apollo was a god, yet here he stood in front of her and bare of any glamour that showed her that he was a deity.
He was just a boy.
And she was just a girl.
But Ashlyn knew that wasn't true. They may have been kindred souls once but they events that she saw knew it was for the better they were apart afterwards.
But what about now?
She knew she couldn't romanticisie this. She couldn't fix this. Fix him.
Apollo was a god. He was a dangerous being and when he loved someone he tore the world apart for them.
Ashlyn wasn't Cassandra though. Not was she a Hyacinthus or Daphne. She was a remnant of the past.
She knew she was Dawn in another life; she knew what that girl had gone through.
And she didn't want to go through that again.
But was this worth it?
She didn't know, all she knew is that she wasn't leaving until she got the whole story from him.
Yet, he stood there, like he had seen a ghost. Not speaking a word.
"What is going on!" Ashlyn nearly screamed. She was fine with being traumatised, she wasn't fine with being kept in the dark.
He stood still as a single gold tear fell from his eyes. And another, and another.
He looked at her as if she was a phantom that had been haunting him forevermore.
She didn't know what to make of that.
Apollo was cruel before. She was warily of his presence in her life. When history repeats itself, what's a man but who he was before?
Her words echoed in the room for a bit longer, his tears stained his face with gold. Her heart was breaking slowly, while his was softening form it's usual stone.
"I loved a girl once," Apollo began tearfully. "She was everything that wasn't me. She was the earth that my flames would destroy. She was you."
Ashlyn just stood there as the god continued. His face contorted with grief and regret.
"You were killed, in Troy, and I..." He took a deep breath. " And I caused a havoc. As it turns out, you weren't dead. Just gone. For whatever reason that Fates have, you were alive. Somewhere safe from me. And then you came back, and it killed me again."
He stopped, gazing out the window as if searching for prettier words to describe what came next. "I was angry, another love died but brought back to life, only to be kept from me?"
He looked like he was breaking down, Ashlyn took a step forwards, unsure if what to do- she wrappers her arms around his neck and hugged him as he sobbed on her shoulder.
"I was a monster. I am one-"
"No, you're not. You're just someone who needs a hug." She interrupted and squeezed him tighter as he hugged her back gently.
"I'm sorry Sunshine."
