Ashlyn didn't know hot chocolate predicted the future.
Yet, it was a fail proof mechanism of her universe that informed her of the next events.
Bitter? Apologies, somebody's gonna die/get hurt/get taken.
Sweet? You're welcome, you're gonna get claimed/meet the love of your life/finish a quest.
'You've met the love of your life?'
Ash's eyes widened
Lord Apollo?
'No, Justin Bieber. Yes, of course it's me! Who else could sound so amazing?'
... Beyonce
Ash heard a dramatic gasp inside her head.
'I should've got people to burn hot chocolate for me instead of meat. It doesn't even smell that nice.'
Poor you, would you like a hug?
'I know you're being sarcastic but seriously yes.'
Damn go ask one of your current infatuations then
There was no response and Ash thought Apollo might've actually done so.
'Whatever, Zeus is being annoying again, talk later!'
Ok, goodbye Lord Apollo
'What's up with that?'
What's up with what?
'LOrD APollO'
That's not what I sound like
'Sure, you've called me by name earlier!'
Heat of the moment, I apologise
'No,no, please! Please call me Apollo. No LoRd stuff allowed!'
Ok...Bye idiot!
'... did you just call me, the god of the freaking sun, an idiot?'
Would you prefer big-headed?
And that was that.
It hadn't nearly been a couple of hours since she got claimed and Apollo decided to listen into her thoughts. She has been informed that 'Dite had decided to have him do that to "keep my granddaughter safe as she can be" or so Apollo said. To be fair, it did sound like her.
Ash stared down at her plate. She sat with Thalia at Cabin One's dinner table. The older girl kept looking at her with apologetic eyes. She has apologised again and again. Ash hasn't exactly forgiven her for it just told her it was fine. So, to avoid another awkward conversation, she let her mind wander.
It decided on hot chocolate for her drink. She hesitantly sipped it, Sweet.
One piece of good news!
She sipped on it, contentedly and looked at her free arm. A vine adorned it, copied around just right enough to not fall off or hurt her. Two of the massive vine-cage she had made to trap Thalia earlier had slithered their way onto her arms and stayed there, motionless. She moved her attention towards her hand.
Five rings, all that adorned her scared fingers. Guitar strings, bow strings, thorns and daggers. A ring with a star from Artemis; a plain ring from her father; a sapphire studded one from Thalia; one with a heart cut out she bought herself; and a vine with sparkles and a thunderbolt from her trip to Olympus.
She was given the last one by Aphrodite as a "token of who she is" when she visited Olympus, four years ago.
So, her left hand remained adorned with rings while her right was left unburdened. She has a nervous habit of twirling them around and moving them to her right hand, so their places did get mixed up during the day. One finger always remained ring-less. Her ring finger on her left hand.
