Rescued - Damian Priest

This was not happening, this couldn't possibly be happening to me. I needed to get on that flight to Florida! My best friend was expecting me to attend her wedding, there were things planned for each day leading up to it and she would kill me if I missed anything.

She would also think I was doing it on purpose to avoid one thing in particular........she was trying to set me up with some one who she thought was perfect for me. He was a friend of both her and her husband to be and I was supposed to meet him the second night I was there.

My stomach drops as I watch the words next to my flight change in slow motion to cancelled and then I rush up to the desk.

"Hi I'm supposed to be on the flight to Florida that just got cancelled. When will the next flight be?" I ask

"I'm sorry ma'am but there has been a major technical issue and all flights are cancelled" she says and I feel like I could throw up "you could rent a car and drive there, you just need to go to that desk over there"

Nodding I make my way over to the desk and join the queue. There was no way I was going to get there in time for that meeting with mystery man it was going to take at least two days to drive there, that's if I don't stop.

"How can I help you ma'am" the lady asks

"I'd like to hire a car, please." I sigh

"Oh I'm sorry we just let out the last one" she says

"Oh" I say quietly "well thank you anyway"

OK there has to be another option, another way to get there but how? I head over to the seats and slump down in to one putting my head in my hands.....now what was I going to do.

"Excuse me Miss" a deep voice says and my head snaps up only for my eyes to lock with the warmest brown eyes I had ever seen and a beautiful smile.

"Erm, can I help you?" I ask

"No but I might be able to help you" he smiles "I'm the jerk the got the last car, depending on where you're headed I could give you a ride"

"Oh I wouldn't say you were a jerk" I say "I um I'm heading to Florida but that's probably way out of your way"

"Actually I'm heading to Florida too" he smiles "so would you like to tag along? I'm Damian by the way" he says holding out his hand

"I'm y/n" I say shaking his hand "are you sure I mean we don't know each other, you could be a serial killer for all I know" I say and he laughs

"I promise you I'm not" he laughs "are you?" He asks with a smirk

"No I'm not" I smile

"Then say yes and let me help you get to Florida" he says

"Alright yes and thank you" I smile "you're my Knight in shining........hoodie" I say and a deep rumble of laughter escapes him and the way my knees feel I'm glad I'm sat down.

"So what's in Florida?" He asks as he takes my case a leads me to where the car is located

"My best friends wedding, she's going to be upset I'm going to miss the first two days" I say

"Well how about that I'm going to a wedding too" he says "you don't think............nah there are way too many weddings in Florida for that to be possible" he says

"Well mine is on Saturday" I say

"Oh then your going to miss the first three days then" he says "it takes the best part of three days to drive from here to Florida if you don't stop and I have no plans to drive for three days straight"

"Oh I wouldn't expect you to and it's fine I won't be missing anything important" I say "just some stupid blind date" I mutter

"What was that?" He asks as he places my case in the trunk

"Oh erm my friend is trying to set me up with some one" I say

"You have friends like that too huh" he chuckles "looks that the tech problem did us both a favour"

"Yeah maybe" I smile "Thank you again for helping me out. I know you didn't have to but I really appreciate it"

"I wasn't about to leave you stuck here" he says "I could tell getting to where you were going was important"

"Well I appreciate it and hey who knows maybe by the end of this we will have both made a new friend" I smile

"I like that idea" he smiles "come on let's hit the road"

As I climb into the car it's not lost on me how insane this is. Normally getting into a car with a complete stranger would be a complete no go for me.

But there was something about this guy, something that told me I was going to be perfectly safe. His smile was knee weakening for sure and he was definitely handsome. But something also told me I didn't have to worry about any funny business because like me he wasn't looking for anything, we were both happy to be single.

He was my hero, he'd rescued me from being stuck and because of him I wasn't going to completely miss the wedding.

"Alright let's do this thing" he says starting the engine "I don't have a set plan I'm just going to stop when I feel I need to if that's alright with you"

"Fine by me" I smile "I'm looking at this like an adventure"

Damian smiles at me and then we start our journey and who knows what it has in store for us.
