Though it looks like complete and utter chaos, the lodging house and its occupants have a somewhat organized system. They work together like a series of gears. Some of the boys it can function without, but there are three boys that are critical to it running smoothly: Crutchie, Specs, and Jack. Each one plays an intricate part in running the lodging house. Right now we're going to focus on the two boys that get looked over a little more out of the three.

First up is Crutchie, though he's on the younger side of the newsies he's a figure that plays a huge roll in keeping the house going. He's the spark in the darkness for all the other boys, he's what keeps hopes high. Must and Race may keep the house lively with their pranks, but Crutchie is what keeps the other boys happy. He asked that no matter what card you get handed there's always a positive spin on things. Crutchie is especially helpful with the newer newsies. He's one of the first people they meet when they get to the lodging house. Crutchie is also the person that keeps Jack Kelly running. Though it seems like Jack takes care of Crutchie, it's Crutchie who takes care of Jack. If it hadn't been for Crutchie, Jack would've gone to Santa Fe long ago, or been beaten by the city. Crutchie is also one of Jack's right hand men, and in charge of the lodging when Jack is out or in the refuge. That's how Crutchie keeps the lodging running, by making sure everyone has at least a sliver of hope left in their bodies.

If Crutchie is the spirt of the lodging Specs is the brains. He's who Jack turns to when one of the boys are sick. Specs is also who helps teach the boys to read. Specs is also one of Jack's right hand men, and helps better that Crutchie because he can keep up the boys a little easier. Specs is definitely quieter than Crutchie but it helps for when arguments start among the boys. He also doesn't have a thick of an accent as the rest of the boys.

Those are the two boys who play a big part of the lodging house that often get looked over, because most of the focus is on Jack.

A.N. I thought this would turn out better than it did, but if you want a fleshing out of any of the other boys message me, or leave a comment.
