The next day, all everybody in town was talking about was C.H.I.P. – even though they had no idea who he was.
Who was this expert skateboarder, cat burglar, chemist, wrestler and electronics guy who just saved the town?
Where did he live?
What was his favorite food?
Was he dating anybody famous? (Chip got a chuckle out of that last one.)
I figured all this was okay (even kind of cool!), but I told Chip not to tell anybody at school about his secret identity until I figured out the best way to break the news.
But Chip couldn't help himself. He went around school all day telling people it was really him who took down the evil cheese guy the day before! But fortunately, nobody believed him. They just thought it was goofy old Chip being goofy old Chip, and hey, how about squirting some milk out of your nose?
Which he did.
I figured this C.H.I.P. business was serious, and the only person I was going to share it with was my dad. Well, I guess I'd already done that, but I figured maybe this time he'd believe me.
But then I saw Carla Mawhinney. She was at her locker, taking out her lunch in a way that only she could do. Every movement was perfect... every flick of her hair a visual symphony.
