A cold, distant stare could be felt across the room. The sound of rattling chains echoed throughout the room as a boy sat, huddled in a corner. Water dripped down from the ceiling onto the boys head as he sat unfazed by it. Laughter could be heard from the hallway and the sound of drunk hiccups echoed. Opening the door, I slowly stepped into the dark room which the boy was in. Light filled the room and the boy slowly lifted his head from his knees. His body was filled with cuts and bruises and his figure was unnaturally thin. His gaze connected with mine and he quickly looked away. Here they taught them not to meet other people's gazes. I started to feel disgusted by this place and wanted to leave as quickly as possible. I walked over to the boy and crouched down so I could talk to him face to face. He quickly put his face back into his knees before I could say a word. I sighed and slowly put my hand on the boys head. "Would you like to come with me?"
The boy slowly lifted his head so he could look at me. I gave him a smile so he could understand what I meant. Hesitantly he looked away and pushed my hand off his head. "I-I don't think I can." His voice was broken and he sounded helpless. The chains that were on his hands rattled and I started to feel horrible for him. I took the key out of my pocket and undid his chains. The boy looked at me surprised as the chains fell to the ground with a thud. I stood up and reached out my hand to the boy and gave him an offer.
"I'll tell you, you can come with me and live a life much better than the one here or you can stay here and face the horrors that will accompany you." The boy froze for a minute and took my hand without a second thought. The boy looked down at his feet as I lead him out of the room. People stared at us as I lead the boy out of the building, him clinging to my arm. Their faces were filled with disgust and they whispered things to each other.
"Sir, the car is ready," a lady said as she ran up to me. I nodded at her as I took the boy to the car.
"When we get back I want you to treat this boy." She nodded and I got in the car as we left that disgusting building.
~12 years later~
"I found you all pawns to play with for this game." The boys eyes widened at my words as he took a step back. I had called him here to tell him that and to inform him who it was. He shook his head then looked at me with a glare.
"You can't be serious." He gritted his teeth as he took a few steps forward. I sighed as I put my head on my hands. Nodding, I could see him clench his fists as he walked up to me. He slammed his hands on my desk. "I didn't agree to this." I chuckled a little as I looked up at him.
"But there's no way you can go against me." He lowered his and and clenched his fists before leaving the room. I sat back in my chair as I watched him slam the door. Sighing, I looked at the paper on my desk that I wasn't able to give to him. It was filled with information on the boy that would be his pawn. His name was Seto.
