30. NEVER ABSENT FROM YOUR HEART

— ANAIS' POV

Two months have passed since Jay's departure to Seattle and Anais' life had never felt the same anymore as how it used to be when Jay was still around. The absence of Jay from her life left a void deep within, as if there was a piece of her heart that had gone missing and it longed for the person that she couldn't physically reach.

Back then, Anais' days were constantly filled with Jay's presence around her but now the distance just decided to separate both of them apart. Her heart is missing and craving for the sight of him every day, but the only thing that could revive their feelings is by having video calls with Jay on some days.

By the time Anais graduated from university two months ago, she was struggling to find a position in the Marketing industry in the first month but recently she finally was accepted to be a part one of the biggest local clothing brand companies under the Marketing department.

The first person she reached out when she received the news was her mother and of course that made her happiest. After what their family went through for those past few years with her mother's condition, struggling in the final year of the university really paid off her hard work for this position.

Beside her mother, Anais also informed the news to Jay right after that — only for her to receive those overwhelming congratulations wishes from him on the other line. Through the tone of his voice, Anais instantly knew that Jay was proud of her — how she could hear those sounds that he made as endless smiles and grins left his lips.

And now that her life is slowly turning better than it was, she can't wait to live in those days where she'll finally become an independent, career woman. It's the kind of life that she has been dreaming for in the longest time, and of course she won't take this golden opportunity for granted.

Today is her first day of work and Anais wakes up earlier than usual to get herself ready for this awaited moment. Getting herself all freshen up in the morning, she finally wears a white collared shirt underneath to pair them up with a beige blazer. She snuggles into one of her high waisted dark blue jeans and fastens a dark brown belt as an accessory to complete her casual look for the day.

By the time she's finished getting ready, her morning is already greeted by the sight of breakfast on the table in their dining room, as her mother was walking back and forth serving those scrambled eggs on a toast with a smashed avocado on the side. "Mom, what's with all this?" Anais chuckles before settling down on one of the chairs at the dining table.

"It's your first day of work today. You should eat your breakfast beforehand to enjoy your day. I don't wanna let you go on empty stomach of course" Her mother states, placing another plate of roasted chicken. "Now eat more before going off, okay?" The older says before planting a kiss on top of Anais' head and she goes back into the kitchen to make her a cup of coffee.

"You don't need to prepare so much, Mom. It's really early in the morning. You should have some more rest" Anais exclaims, slowly taking a bite of her toast and scrambled eggs on her plate. "Don't bother. I went to bed so early last night just to prepare you some breakfast. I had enough rest already" Her mother shouts across the kitchen, before she comes back with a mug of coffee in her grip and serves them on Anais' side.

"And here's the coffee to make you awake!" The older chimes in, taking a seat across Anais only for her to mutter her thank you. "So, how are you feeling for your first ever official job?" The mother asks curiously as her face contorts into a serious expression. Anais hums a rhythm under her breath, nodding so slightly and answering. "It's kinda nervous, but at the same time I am looking forward for the fun part of it. I have been dreaming about this job in a long time, so I should be happy about it"
