We first learned that Kelly and Stella had history when he approached her in Molly's, in S4 Bad for the soul.

But we never actually saw on Stella's first shift, how they reacted to seeing each other , after all that time....

Fate. That's what we call things that are meant to be, right? 'Predetermined by a supernatural power.' Or so they say, but Kelly Severide didn't believe in shit like that.

But maybe he should have.....

Severide needed a coffee. Desparately.  It had been that kind of shift. The business with Richter and Mcormick was laying heavily on him, but his gut told him he was right about this. On top of that he'd left the Loft really late this morning, only skating in for morning briefing by the skin of his teeth and all because a cute bargirl had propositioned him at the club he shouldn't have gone to last night and didn't have the self discipline to pass up on the opportunity for a hook up. And when he'd let himself out of her place this morning while she was still asleep, he had leaned back against the elevator wall, realizing with shame that he couldn't even remember her name. Pouring himself a coffee, he tried to push away the empty feeling that followed him around these days taunting him about his 'fuck and leave,' attitude to his life.

Behind him as he poured himself a cup of coffee, Truck and Engine returned from a call, the usual loud post mortem going on as they piled into the common room. Turning round, he took a swallow of his coffee, but half spat it out again, coughing uncontrollably, sure he was seeing things.

"You o.k there, Severide?" Hermann called out to him from the couch while he tried to recover his breath....... and his composure.

"Yeah, you got coffee all over your station shirt, Lieutenant." Capp added, not missing an opportunity to take a shot at his Lieutenant.

A deep red color had crept over the back of Severide's neck and face, but only he and the girl walking in with Casey, who had recognized him and was now smirking, knew that it was for more reason than his coffee going down the wrong way.

"Hey Severide, meet 51's newest member." Casey and the girl were heading his way, and Severide had nowhere ro run.

Rooted to the spot, recollections of a very embarrassing idea he'd once had, were exhuming themselves from the part of his brain labled 'Do not enter', belatedly realizing he should have paid more attention when Boden had told them Borelli was being replaced by someone from Auburn.

Fuck! Stella Kidd, was the new recruit on Truck 81?!

Lifting his cup up in greeting and self consciously wiping coffee off his shirt with his other hand, he was acutely aware that his stomach was doing somersaults under the onslaught of laughing dark brown eyes which seemed to be enjoying his embarrassment. Jesus, she was as hot as he remembered! No..hotter! There was a new confidence in the way she was looking back at him which hadn't been there before. But the same sassy curve to that mouth he'd spent weeks fantasizing about at the academy.   Her snigger alerted him that he was staring at her mouth, and his eyes immediately shot back up to hers, his flush deepening.

"Hey, Kidd." He really hoped that came out sounding more self-assured than he actually felt right now.

"Hey, Lieutenant Severide." Her eyes were twinkling with little dancing lights.

"You two know each other?" Casey looked from one to the other in surprise.

"Yeah, I taught one of Kidd's courses at the academy." He replied, pretending at a casual recollection, praying she'd keep her mouth shut about anything else.
