ANTECEDENT: CHAPTER 41

NAUSEA overcame Midnight as the call with Orlando ended. He had to run to the bathroom sink to vomit. Fortunately, it was only retching and not a full-blown vomiting. This made no sense since he was already used to Orlando's attitude toward him, but when Orlando mentioned his teammates' names, including Chaos', he felt like his stomach dropped and hurled.

He knew that it was a warning for him. His father might've found out his friendship with Chaos and his closeness with his teammates. He didn't know why, but he could feel that his father did not like him interacting closely with anyone.

He tried to recall why, but a sharp pain pierced his skull that he nearly toppled over in front of the sink!

Midnight held the edge of the sink to stabilize himself. That pain was a warning. Now he wondered just how much bad memories he had for him to feel pain every time he tries to remember his past.

Silvanus never told him how much memories he had removed to fix him. All he knew was that everything bad had been sealed off. Did that mean that his past was all bad?

That couldn't be possible. He had his brother with him. He would always accompany him and come to his rescue. Uncannily, he couldn't remember the details of that.

His head was pierced by a sharp pain again, and he winced.

I shouldn't think about it. Midnight did his best to not think about his past. He had to listen to Silvanus' warning. He now had people to protect. The past was the past. What matters the most was the present and the future.

However, what to do now? His father wanted him to kill someone in his territory. Did he even have a choice? He had none. Orlando even asked for a couple of documents from his office.

Midnight looked at himself in the mirror. For some reason, he felt like the man reflected in the mirror was not him. This was why he hated looking at himself in the mirror. It would always remind him that he was a shadow—an insignificant person.

Unconsciously, Midnight touched his reflection in the mirror. Why did I have to be born looking like my big brother?

Suddenly, an image flashed in his mind.

He was lying on the operating table, with doctors surrounding him.

Pain burst inside his head, and he fell over as he clutched his head. "No! No...no...no! I don't want to remember! No, please! No! I don't want it! I don't want it!"

Midnight didn't know who he was begging to, but he pleaded desperately until the image finally disappeared in his mind. But it left him shaking in fright and curling into a fetal position on the bathroom tile.

That's what Malcolm saw when he returned to Midnight's office to report back that the Ultors Court had accepted their complaint.

"Midnight!" Malcolm easily picked up Midnight and hurriedly carried him to the infirmary.

"What happened?" The Doctor asked, seeing the new continental boss being carried by Malcolm.

"I don't know. I just saw him like this." Malcolm carefully deposited Midnight on the bed and he step back to let the doctor check on the boss.

Midnight was unconscious, and blood was dripping down his nose. It was horrible.

"I'll inform his team." Malcolm left the infirmary to call the boss' Ultor. "Mr. Lockridge, come to the HQ. Midnight fell unconscious on the bathroom floor."

After the call, Malcolm stayed in the infirmary with Midnight until Atticus and Love arrived.

"Deputy! What happened?!" Love asked, huffing and catching his breath.
