I was surrounded by an almost blinding white room that seemed to have no walls or ceiling but light was coming from somewhere. I wanted to shield my eyes but I couldn't, my hands wouldn't move to my face.

"Hello?" I called out, hoping someone could hear me. I didn't know where I was or how I got there.

After getting no response, and not wanting to stand and do nothing to find out where I was, I started to walk. There were no doors, no windows, no nothing. Up above me was identical. I wasn't even certain if I was walking on a floor because there was no shadow and when I thought about it, I couldn't feel the floor under my feet either.

I stopped walking suddenly when a faint cry resonated around me. I looked around. Nothing. I was ready to write that off as me just hearing things since I was in complete silence when I heard the sound again, louder, clearer.

I started to run, hopefully, in the direction it came from, the person sounded in pain.

Gradually, the cries occurred more frequently. After the final one, the whole room suddenly went black.

Was it a nightmare?

Everywhere was pitch black, except in the distance; there was a faint, flickering light, maybe a fire, so I went that way. I needed to get out of wherever it was that I was.

When I got nearer to what was a fire, I noticed someone sat beside it, hugging their knees up to their chest. Upon closer inspection, I saw it was a guy, maybe it was him making all the noise earlier.

Fists at the ready, I approached the boy at a steady pace. He could try to strike first so I had to be vigilant. He looked up to meet my stare when I was a few feet away.

I knew that face, those mesmerising purple eyes and pale pink lips.

Alexander.

I knelt to his level to inspect him closer, "are you ok? Was it you screaming earlier?" When I reached out to touch his cheek, I immediately flinched away. He was ice cold. He didn't respond to me either.

"Where is Austin? Is he here?" I asked.

Alexander's eyes seemed extremely unfocused and when he did look at me, he looked through me instead. Otherwise, his eyes were darting around the room we were in. Apart from that, he looked fine, I thought Austin would've hurt him to get answers or payback, but there wasn't a single mark on his face.

The second time I reached out for him, this time for his arm to stand him up, he stood up faster than I could blink and turned his back from me. He covered his face and lowered his head.

I furrowed my eyebrows. I wanted to know what had happened to him, where we were, what was happening, but he was so unresponsive. I'd never witnessed this side to him before. It was kind of scary in a sense.

Cautiously, I stood myself in front of Alex and eyed him closely, waiting for him to move, but he didn't.

Eventually, after some reassuring words from me, Alex gradually removed his hands from his face, nevertheless, his head remained down.

"Look at me. I'm here," I said softly.

And he did. I wished he didn't though. His face... It changed from just a moment ago. He wasn't fine at all. His face was bruised and bloody, his lips had cuts all over them, his whole nose was a hideous purple-black colour, both of his eyes were black and bloodshot.

Tears filled my eyes the longer I looked at his assaulted and damaged face. He was almost unrecognisable.

Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream filled my ears. One filled with pain and torture, and it was coming from Alex. I covered my ears.
