Once again, I was alone in my house. I sat, slumped on the living room couch, watching TV while my mind was elsewhere. Ugh. He wouldn't get out of my head, as much as I tried. He wouldn't. Every thought, every second, everything in my day was centered around—creak.
What was that?
I muted the TV and slowly got up. I could hear something in the house. My parents were out of town for the weekend, or year—it was always guessing with them. Someone was in my house. I didn't have anything on me, the closest thing to a weapon in this room was a lamp or a lacrosse stick Stiles had left here last week. Good enough. If the invader was human, I could easily take a swing to the head with it. If he wasn't...well, then I was done for. Grabbing the lacrosse stick leaning against one of the living room walls, I made my way to the foyer. My heart was beating erratically. What if this was one of the Alpha's? The small, hanging foyer light wasn't powerful enough to make the whole room glow like it was daytime, but it was just enough for the room to be dim. The front door was closed but it was unlocked, which made my heart race even more. I swore I locked that door when I came back from that dumb party Scott and Stiles dragged me too. My shoulders dropped; maybe I was just imagining things. Maybe this whole Alpha thing was getting to my head.
"Really? A lacrosse stick?" I gasped and swung around, seeing Derek leaning against the wall where I just passed at the entrance to the foyer. I put a hand over my chest.
"Do you have something against knocking?" I shrieked. "We're not dating anymore you can't just show up to my house like this." He ignored me.
"You really think you can fight off an Alpha pack with a Lacrosse stick?"
"No but I can easily fight off someone human with it." I paused, still trying to catch my racing heart. "What are you trying to give me, a heart attack?" I exclaimed.
"No, another chance."
"What?" I whispered. This was unexpected. Was I dreaming? I was totally dreaming.
"For them not to know about you fully you'd have to stay away from Scott."
"You're asking me to stay away from Scott." I repeated, deadpan. Well this conversation just turned 180 degrees in the opposite direction.
"No, I, um—"
"Use your words, Derek." I demanded. He shot me a glare and in response I crossed my arms over my chest. "What, did me coming for a little visit change you're mind?"
