"I'm nervous... What if I get in trouble or something?"
I grasped her hand tighter.
"I'm nervous too. I know I'm gonna get in trouble."
Aya looked up at me.
"Thank you." She was on the brink of tears.
I looked back down at her and smiled.
We both looked up to the orphanage, and took a deep breath spontaneously.
We walked up the steps and I reached for the door bell.
"A-are you sure?" Aya blurted out.
"We'll be fine." I whispered, smoothing out her long black hair.
I rang the doorbell which made a harsh buzzing sound.
A few seconds later a lengthy middle aged woman with short blonde hair answered the door.
"Hello! How can I-" her eyes widened at the sight of Aya.
"Oh my god!" The woman broke out in tears and kneeled down to hug her.
Aya stayed expressionless, but hugged back.
"What happened to you?" The woman moved hair out of her face.
"I ran away. I lived in a tree house."
The woman looked at her in disbelief and laughed slightly as tears ran down her face, and she then glanced at me.
She stood up to examine me closer, I leaned back a bit.
"And who is this?" She gave me a welcoming smile.
"This is (y/n). She found me."
The woman smiled larger and put out her hand.
"Elise. How do you do?"
"Uhh..." I shook her hand, still leaning back.
"Please! Let's go inside!"
Elise moved to the side and Aya grabbed my hand to lead me inside, to what seemed like the head office.
We took a seat on the other side of the desk, and Elise shut the door, sitting in the office chair.
"Well, this is just fantastic! I'll notify the police to end the search immediately! Splendid, splendid..." She trailed off as she typed into her computer.
"So! Is there anything else I should know about?"
I looked at Aya and we both agreed not to explain too much, as it would just make the story complex.
"W-what happened to my friends?" Aya looked to the floor.
Elise gave a concerned look.
"I don't follow..?"
I looked at Aya, but she didn't seem to notice. I prayed that she wouldn't mention them sneaking out.
Aya was smart though, she knew.
"I-I was just wondering how they were doing..." Aya looked up at her, and Elise eased up.
"Well, they are trouble makers as usual. I caught them stealing extra food for the 3rd time this week! You know what happens on the third strike..." Elise waved her hand and rolled her eyes.
Aya was now beaming.
"That's great that they're still here!"
I felt confusion hit my face, which Aya picked up quickly.
"On the third strike we have to sleep in seperate places with opposite age groups so we can't create evil schemes. It's only for a week though." Aya sounded like this was a regular thing that I should know of.
"Well. I'm glad this is all sorted out! Aya, go on up to your room, and I assume you'll be on your way?"
I looked over to Aya who gave me a reassuring smile.
"A-actually... I'm interested in adopting..."
Elise paused what she was doing.
"O-oh... Uh... Okay." She smiled and sat back down.
She took out a form and clicked her pen.
"How old are you?" She narrowed her eyes to see me better.
"18, going on 19." I gulped.
She leaned back in her chair.
"I see... And under what circumstances are you living?"
"Well... As of right now... I'm living with my step father. We both have jobs..."
"What do you work as?" She was now writing things down.
"I'm a waitress at a local diner." I smirked, trying to look more confident.
"Does your father approve of this?"
"Well... He doesn't know... But..."
I saw Aya face palm in the corner of my eyes, and beads of sweat began to form at my hairline.
"Um... I-I'm sorry but I don't think you qualify to adopt Aya." Elise put the pen down and folded her hands on the desk.
"B-but I want to go with her!" Aya stood up.
"Aya, please..."
"No! I hate it here! And I don't want anyone else. I want (y/n)!"
"Aya, go to your room."
Aya turned to me.
"You have to do something! You can't let her take me!"
Elise stood up and put her hands on her shoulders, directing her out of the room.
Aya quickly jumped back but Elise caught her, and picked her up.
"(Y/n)! (Y/n)!" She was reaching for me, kicking, screaming, tears streaming down her face.
"I-I'm sorry! It wasn't-"
The door slammed and I was left in silence.
"It wasn't supposed to turn out like this." I whispered, looking at the old wooden door that separated me and Aya's hell on earth.
And she was back here because of me.
I quickly stood up and opened the door. It was silent down each hallway, and the building suddenly seemed much bigger. I couldn't figure out which direction to go, and backed into the room hopelessly.
Her crying, screaming face yelling may name was fresh in my mind.
I sat down and stared at the floor, a few tears escaping.
"It wasn't supposed to turn out like this." I repeated.

Halu
I know this is a shorter, and low quality chapter, but I haven't been doing so well with the whole Daniel thing.
I wanted to post something though, so yeah. That's what you get, sorry.😂
I would say something about Daniel here, but I'm honestly too exhausted by this whole thing. I already posted something on my other fanfic, so go there if you want to hear my vent.
So yeah. If I don't post much/ bad content this week, you know why.
Love you guys.
