Chapter 21

His eyes were amazing and almost made me collapse onto the floor again as he stared back at me. They were the weirdest eyes I had even seen because they didn’t really have a colour to describe them. At first I thought they were brown with flecks of green, but as we stared at each other they began to change to almost silver and it nearly made my heart beat right out of my chest as his eyes pierced into mine. It felt like time had stopped as I breathed in this scent. It smelt just like maple syrup with a hint of hemp trees and it made my mouth water.

“Mate.” The handsome stranger said out loud, causing my wolf to howl beautifully and try desperately to get me to shift, but I wouldn’t let her take over. Not now, I couldn’t.

He was looking at me so intently as he said the word mate out loud that I got butterflies in my sore stomach. Was he calling me his mate? I don’t even know him. I could see Rex from where I was standing and he looked pale like he was going to be sick. I wanted to look directly at him or ask if he was alright but I couldn’t take my eyes off of the stranger sitting in front of me.

It didn’t help that my wolf was practically doing summersaults in my head as we took in the new stranger’s profile. It was so unlike her to be happy around people we didn’t know, but she was bursting with joy as we stared at him. He was to die for, with his chiselled jaw line and perfectly straight nose and almost caramel coloured skin. My wolf one hundred percent agreed which she has never done before. I almost smiled at his handsome grin until his mesmerised features changed into a murderous, cold- hearted look of someone about to kill. I guessed he was the alpha and I was about to die.

I didn’t even have time to react as the stranger that looked ready to kill flew out of his chair and was standing in front of me, instantly ripping Lincoln’s nails out of my arm and then throwing Lincoln out of the room.  I was pretty sure Lincoln’s hand was broken and I nearly felt sorry for him as he landed down hard on the ground. Nearly, until the pain in my wrists and my tensed sore stomach along with the dull ache in my head from where he ruthlessly pulled my hair snapped me back to reality.

I watched, frozen in place, as Chris’s already swollen face was punched so brutally that I swear he stopped breathing from the shock. He was then sent flying just like Lincoln had and I was terrified that I was going to be next. My heart was beating so hard that when their attacker turned and reached out to grab me my chest began to hurt from the thudding.

I thought I was afraid. I should have been afraid, but the moment my back hit his chest and his arms wrapped over my shoulders protectively, I felt safe.

I still couldn’t get the chains off of my wrists and they burned into my skin causing me to hiss out loud. I felt a slight tug on my wrist and looked down to see that the chains had been ripped off and thrown out the door in one fluid movement that I nearly missed it. I rubbed my red wrists and was grateful to my saviour that was still holding me tightly, when the other man that was in the room stepped forward and spoke.

“Calm down son.”

I only caught a glimpse of the man’s features as I was turned away from him quickly and was then tucked tighter into my saviour’s chest before he replied “Mine!” loudly near my ear, sending tingles down my spine.

“It’s okay son. I understand, just calm down.”

I was turned and crushed into his rock hard chest as he shoved his face into the crook of my neck and began breathing in heavily. I couldn’t help but do the same. His scent was so amazing that I couldn’t help but sniff deeply. It was one of those smells that you wished you could live and breathe everyday instead of just plain old air; and I couldn’t get enough of it.
