Vin saw Callum glaring at him from across the dance floor and laughed to himself.
He swallowed the rest of his drink and waited at the bar for Callum and Beth to come back over, watching their drinks for them.
After almost half an hour, Beth waltzed over, barely out of breath.
Callum came over a moment later, looking exhausted. He drained his drink in one and went to order another, kicking Vin hard in the shin as he walked past.
When Beth stood up to dance again, Callum firmly evaded her attempts to drag him back up.
Vin was saved from dancing with her by the arrival of Matthew Gabel.
"Who's that?" She asked with interest.
"Matthew Gable. PC Gabel's son."
Beth eyed the new arrival somewhat predatorily.
"My aunt did mention he likes dancing," said Vin smoothly, watching Beth from the corner of his eyes.
"He does?" Beth asked. "Finally, a guy who likes dancing. Bye, boys." She waltzed off to her newest catch, leaving Vin and Callum breathing sighs of relief.
"I'll get you for that," Callum hissed under his breath when she was out of earshot. "You see if I don't."
"What?" Vin asked. "Dancing with her is like... a rite of passage. You're one of the club now."
"What club?"
"The PCP club."
"The what?"
"The Police Christmas Party club. Everyone has to dance with Beth. It's like... a law." Vin grinned at Callum's look.
Callum responded by digging his elbow into Vin's side.
Vin laughed. "I don't know why you're complaining. You danced alright."
"I dance like a drunken hippo." Said Callum moodily.
"Come on, grump. Let's get something to eat."
