"You better go"
"Am I being kicked out?"
Jane and Jakes eyes latched from each end of the breakfast bar.
"No...well, yes" Jane slowly sipped her coffee. "Joanne would have a field day if she just 'happened' to pass and you were well...em...here" Jane muttered "even though nothing..em..happened"
"I love it when you feel awkward" Jake smirked.
"Well this is...awkward" Jane rolled her eyes "waking up this morning with yo...its just awkward" Jane mumbled as she took another sip of her morning coffee.
"How exactly?" Jake couldn't help but ask.
"Your my ex-husband"
"And your my ex-wife"
Jane narrowed her eyes, where was Jake going with this?
"If you'd prefer me to be your husband..."
Jane near chocked on her drink. Her husband? He wanted to be her husband?
"Oh, come on Jane. You know I'd marry you in a flash" he winked.
"Sounds very...Vegas" Jane commented.
Finishing his coffee, Jake stood up. "I better go" he decided
"Hmm" Jane near spat the remainder of her coffee out. "You were proposing to me a minute ago" she giggled.
"...and I'm escaping before you have the chance to say no" he smirked.
Jane raised an eyebrow and slowly licked a splash of coffee off her lips "wise move" she whispered after she'd finally decided on the right choice of words.
Jake lightly strummed his finger tips off the marble worktop "exactly" he narrowed his eyes as he turned towards the door, grabbing his coat on the way out. He sharply turned as he heard the deafening squeak of the chair being pulled away from the table.
They stared at each other for a minute, Jane broke their intense stare.
Running her hand down the grey coat, Jane stopped when she reached the pale label "your a partner in a firm and you can't afford a new coat, now that does worry me" she smirked.
"You bought me this"
"I know" she whispered "I remember"
"You do" Jake raised an eyebrow.
"March fourteenth 1986" she whispered.
"The day we c..." A thin finger being placed against his lips silenced Jake.
"Like a said...I remember" Jane smirked, turning away to reach the door handle.
"I'm sure you do" Jake pulled his coat together when a thin layer of white snow came into view.
Jane froze when Jake's cold hands grasped her face, his lips pushed against hers.
"I thought we talked about this" Jane's eyes latched with his, his hands still clutching her cheeks, his lips nearly touching hers.
"Correction, you talked about this, I didn't say a word"
Jane's eyes quickly darted between his eyes and his lips. "It's the only way" she breathed.
"Nothing begins until I set foot out of this house" he argued.
She slowly tugged his hands from her cheeks as their lips met one more time. "You have to go"
"I know" he whispered "but...dinner"
"That...I didn't agree to"
"Just once, if you don't like it we don't have to do it again"

"You what!"
The phone may have been on speaker but Jane could practically see her best friend fall off her office chair.
"Oh my god" Trisha squealed "and he was like just sitting there?"
"Yes!" Jane tightened her hands on the steering wheel "dressed head to toe in Calvin Klein, sipping a cup of coffee"
"Just there...like actually there"
"Yes!" Jane sighed "how many times do I need to say it? It was him"
"Are u sure?" Trisha asked "are you sure it was actually him?"
"I think I know what my ex-husband looks like" Jane rolled her eyes "I had three kids with him for gods sake!"
"So...let me get this straight, your ex-husband, the man you recently had an affair with, sat in the store for three hours?"
"Three hours" Jane stressfully repeated.
"He's pining" Trisha decided within a few seconds.
"For what exactly?" Jane sighed in frustration "he has a thirty two year old wife at home!"
"From what I hear...not any more" Trisha commented "though I suppose that makes matters worse"
"He's mental" Jane decided "I'm mental"she shook her head.
"I hate to say it Jane, but that affair done more good than bad"
"I don't want to listen to this, I can't hear this now" Jane sighed.
"Then meet me for coffee" Trisha urged her "Diane's working but I'm sure between me and Joanne, we could make you feel better"
"I can't"
"Stop right there" Trisha muttered "moping round the house isn't going to do you any good"
"I'm going out" Jane sighed, was she about to tell her best friend the only thing that still remained completely private in her life.
"Out?" Trisha questioned.
"Dinner" Jane decided giving another small detail away wasn't going to do any harm.
"Who is he?" There was no point in beating round the bush, Trisha knew what was going on, she could smell it a mile off.
"Nobody you know" Jane lied.
She was making quite a habit of that.
"If you say so" Trisha's voice was low, she knew something was up "I have to go"
"Talk to you soon"
Jane ended the call with a frown on her face. That was too easy, way too easy. Usually her friends would be grilling her for more information...as much information as possible.
Jane sighed, she was out of town for a meeting and the thought of doing anything but putting her feet up tonight was unbearable.
Jake wouldn't leave the store until she had agreed to accompany him out to one of the hottest restaurants in town. At first she had totally been against the idea, but she had soon rethought her decision when, three hours later, Jake was still hanging about the store with that childlike grin on his face.

One hour later and she was still sitting in the traffic from hell. She could just cancel and God, she was tempted to, but Jake would simple cancel their reservation, opt for a carry out and sit outside her house until she eventually let him in...and she would.

Pulling into her driveway, Jane cursed seeing Trisha and Joanne's cars. This was something she really didn't need right now.
Quickly slamming the door, Jane placed her hands on her hips raising an eyebrow at the two girls.
"You called her" Jane sighing as she placed her keys into a small glass bowl "of course you did" she rolled her eyes. "You two better go, I'm going out in an hour...but you two knew that of course"
"You didn't expect us to let you go without doing a complete background check on the guy" Trisha chuckled.
"No, but I didn't expect you both to turn up here!" Jane sighed in frustration.
"This guy could be a murderer for all we know"
Jane rolled her eyes at Joanne "don't me so dramatic"
"If your going out with this guy we need to know that he's....stable" Joanne argued.
"Stable?" Jane rolled her eyes "that's it, I'm off to get ready" Jane threw her hands in the air as she headed for the stairs.
"So are we"
