Chapter 1-

We finish stacking the boxes in our new house's lounge room before collapsing onto the dusty couch. Being here brings back so many old memories. 'Where am I?' you ask? Well I’m home of course, and no, not the other houses I’ve had over my 100 years. This one’s my real home, born and grown here. Yes, it hurts to be back here but Benjamin and Sebastian have been begging me to move here for years, eventually wearing me down until I said okay.

If you’re wondering who they are, well it’s easy, they’re my brothers. Not biological brothers, but they’re brothers nonetheless. I wouldn’t swap them for the world. They’re also just like me, vampires. The only difference is I didn’t have a choice to change and they did. I made sure of it.

Some day’s though, I wonder to myself why I chose these two boys. I mean I’ve seen many people being hurt and dying through the years but watching these two broke my heart, they were my brothers before I even knew it myself.

I found Benjamin, or Ben, as I like to call him, wandering the streets in the dark. He was 14 and trying to find his way home, and good-naturedly I followed him. He made it home safely that night but I could tell something was wrong with him. I became his friend and was shocked to know that he was abused by his parents. Not long after I found out he discovered I was a Vampire. He begged me to change him and take him with me. It tore my heart seeing him like that so I changed him.

It must have been a good 10 years after that when I was walking up the road to our old country house that I heard someone crying. It was a cry with the mixture of pain and rejection. I found the source of the cry, Seb, at the age of 4. He was beaten and left in the side of the road to die. One look at him and I knew he wouldn’t make it through the night even with the medicine they could provide.

Gathering up the courage I weighed the pros and cons but couldn’t decide whether to change him. Then I looked into his eyes and saw the years of pain and neglect. I saw his mother beating him to a pulp deep in his soul. I took a deep breath before sucking out his soul and snapping his neck. That is how you change them after all.

Now all three of us are here at the house I lived for 16 years of my life. I could almost hear the laugh of my sisters as they played in their room and their footsteps walking to and from the rooms. Every thought of them and my parents made my head shaky but I have to move on. I have a new family to look after now and they rely on me.

I stand up and stretch, bones cracking in my shoulders. Quickly I picked up a box and put it in the right room. I repeated the process until every box was in their room. Then as fast as I could I placed everything in their nooks and crannies.

Within half an hour I was done and sat back on the couch. Seb climbs onto my lap and kisses my cheek, falling asleep in a second. Don’t for one second believe that just because we’re vampire’s we don’t sleep, because we do. Oh, and we also don’t sparkle or burn in the sun, hate garlic and not see our reflections. We’re pretty much just like humans but we drink blood to survive and we live forever.

Carefully I cradle him in my arms and place him in the bed in his new room, my sister’s old room. Throughout the years some things have been replaced that broke and every room now has a bathroom and a walk in closet. Other than that it’s the same.

I walk back down into the lounge room and slump on the couch, turning on the TV to the news. It’s all about the latest killings and government crap so I turn it off and lay my head on the back of the couch.

“Hey Sam, when do we start school again?” Ben asks.

I open my eyes to look at him for a second before closing them and relaxing again. “Tomorrow.”
