-Two years ago-

The wind blows through my dark blond hair, making me tremble Because I’m only wearing a thin white dress. Actually, where am I? I look around. I don’t know where I am. I’m standing barefoot on a narrow road, surrounded by nothing but trees. I’m getting paranoid, really paranoid. I want to cry, but I can’t. My eyes wander over the thousands of trees, searching for something. All this is scaring me.

Suddenly  a car comes around the corner. It’s veering wildly and it seems, as if the driver must have lost control. For the first time I realize, the street is wet. It must have rained. Before I can do something I hear a loud noise. The car has crashed into one of the trees. Dark, smoke billows out of the hood. I cry out . My eyes burn like crazy, but I don't want to cry. Not at a moment like this. I slowly move towards the vehicle. Then I warily look through one of the windows, to see if the driver is okay and that’s the moment when the first tears start to flow down my cheeks.

In front of me I see the bloodied face of my mother…

Screaming and thrashing, I opened my eyes. My mum entered the room quickly; I could see in her expression that she was worried about me.

“Are you okay, Mia?” she asked sitting down next to me on my bed. I buried my face in my hands. My whole body was shaking. My mother wrapped her arms around me and I began sobbing. Even if all this was a dream, I was still freaking out, still panicked.

“Y-y-you c-c-can not l-l-eave me! Please d-d-don’t go away… You h-have to st-stay!!!!” I sobbed into her shoulder. She slowly caressed my long hair.

“Mia listen… you know that I have to go because of my job. It won’t be that bad, you are not alone you are here with your father and you two can spend some time together this evening and have a great time! I’m only leaving for two days…”

“B-b-but it's n-not about m-me, it’s about y-you… I saw i-in m-my dream t-that…” I cut off the sentence, because I realized how stupid this sounded. And I realized how embarrassing this situation was for me. I mean a 14-year-old girl, clung in her mother’s arms, crying because she has had a terrible nightmare and trying to convince her to stay at home. That wasn’t only embarrassing that was REALLY awkward. I sat up and tried to calm a bit down

“Look, Honey… it was only a nightmare nothing’s going to happen! You really don’t have to worry okay? Come on stop crying now you have such beautiful green eyes you don’t have to cry now, do you?”

She softly wiped away my tears and smiled at me. She was right! There was nothing I had to be upset about and nothing I had to worry about. It was only a nightmare! So I got up, hugged her and went into the bathroom to start getting ready for the day.

That evening I was standing with my dad at the door looking at the car. My mum left her little suitcase in the trunk and returned to us. She first said goodbye to my father, then she came toward me. She took me into her arms for a long hug and whispered into my ear.

“Don’t think too much about that Mia. I’ll be back in two days!”

Then she turned around and went to the car. Before entering she waved for last time at us. Then she was gone. We closed the door and I went to my room, where I watched a movie, which ended up being pretty boring, but i stuck with it as there was nothing else on TV I went through it.

Towards the end of the movie my father came running into my room. Tears were continuously streaming downs his cheeks, his dark eyes were bloodshot. I hadn’t seen my Dad like this before! He stopped in the middle of the room and just cried . I went towards him and hugged him.

“Dad what happened?” I asked carefully. He looked at me for a long time without saying a word, until he began answering my question.

“Mia your mum is…dead!” he whispered, falling down on his knees.

His words struck me like a blow. My.Mum.is.dead. Before I knew it, I'd burst into tears. I didn’t want to cry- not in front of my dad, but it was too much for me. I had forseen my mother’s death. I had whatched how she died. And so I ended the day like I started it: With tears escaping my eyes…
