Brook’s POV:

I woke early this morning, almost jumping for joy with the excitement.

Of course, I ended up waking Jack and feeling bad, he’d pulled a late shift yesterday and hadn’t came home until eleven, he’d fallen asleep at one and here I was, nearly knocking him out of our bed at seven in the morning.

It was my first scan today, it wasn’t until one this afternoon, but I was so excited. Nervous too, but excited more.

When I hadn’t been able to fall back into sleep, I gotten up and Jack had followed, stating he wasn’t tired.

Now, we were in the process of getting some groceries in, because as far as I was concerned the house was lacking in that area. Jack was happy to live off take-out until he started reading those damn baby books and found out, low and behold, that pregnant woman need, more nutrient foods.

“We need milk next,” I said as we wondered down the aisle. I’d made a list this morning and I’d even let Jack push the trolley, men had a way of liking to drive everything, car and trolleys included.

Just as I was putting the milk into the basket, Jack’s phone rang.

He followed me silently as he answered the phone, his voice so cautious that I stopped us down the pet food aisle, which was empty and turn to him.

“Hey, Maria,” he said, his eyes watching me carefully.

I’m pretty sure my face went pale because I suddenly didn’t feel like a big kid anymore with excitement over my first scan.

“We’re actually just shopping at the second, getting some food in,” he said easily as he moved towards me and wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me to his side.

“Let me speak with, Brook first and I’ll let you know. Is my dad there?” he asked now and I looked up at him.

“Good. No, I don’t want him there,” he muttered to my mum, “Ok, well like I said, I’ll speak with Brook and then I’ll text you and let you know,” he said now.

“Jack...” I whispered, but he shook his head, before placing a brief kiss to my lips.

“Ok. Bye, Maria,” he said as he ended the call.

“My mum... is she ok? Is your dad ok?” I asked, suddenly worried.

“There fine. My dad’s a work, your mum took the day off, she wants us to go round and talk to her today,” he said now and I sagged against him.

“We have the baby’s scan,” I mumbled softly and he wrapped his arms around me tightly.

“Not till one, Brook. If you want to, we can drop the food off at home and then head over to see your mum for an hour or so,” he offered gently.

“Do you want to?” I asked, my heart wanted to at the same time it didn’t.

She didn’t accept Jack and I, she didn’t accept our baby. If she couldn’t accept the two people I loved most in this world, then I wouldn’t accept her.

“She wants to talk, sort things out. She said she didn’t want to be left out of our lives, left out of her grandchild’s life either,” he said gently.

“She accepts our relationship?” I asked and he hesitated a few seconds before answering.

“If I knew that I’d tell you, but I don’t baby, I think she wants to try, but it’s going to take time, Brook. This is going to be hard for her to understand, let alone accept,” he answered finally.
