The sharp inhale hit the back of my throat like the slice of a knife, coughing away the scratch the rattling sound of the inhaler filled the car before I took another deep inhale

"you okay? " Rick said calmly, a simple formality he's become use to over the years

"yeah, I'm fine." I rasped out, squeezing my eyes shut as a very vague pain thumped in my head from the violent coughing

I opened them to gaze out the window, eyes heavy from the tiredness of the restless nights, the sky had turned to amber as the sun began to set; a single walker aimed mindlessly threw the field, it's limbs limp and balance unsteady, it was still undescribable how unsettling a sight seeing a dead man walking was, with the danger so far out of reach you could imagine it was a drunk man stumbling his way home before the sun set.

We hadn't seen another gas station for miles, not that I'd be riddled with anticipation at the sight of one, still the ease of worry would be sobering, we had managed to find a canister but couldn't cipher much gas, just enough to keep us going as far as we have.

"we need more" I mumbled, watching the E taunt me with it's blickering light flashing

"we can make it a little while longer" Rick said, still calm as he looked with faith to the road ahead, his determination always a attribute I found admirable, however I knew he was avoiding the flashing light, not willing to lose a drop of the hope that was keeping him together

It wasn't long before that out look vanished, not much further down the road the car began to slow, it was a steady process, unnoticeable at first but after a while we couldn't deny that the car wasn't going to make it to another station, not that it'd be guaranteed to be very useful anyways.

"Shit" rick cursed under his breath, a slight denial showing as he pressed his foot harder on the pedal, miracly hoping that our best chance at finding our family hadn't given up from under his seat

I turned to him from the side of my eye, seeing him look longingly at the road ahead, almost like he was picturing us still moving, I accepted this would happen a while ago but that didn't mean I wasn't ready to give my best shot in altering the situation

"Come on" I said, my voice quiet, Rick watched me as I grabbed onto our canteen of water, along side the empty gas can, luckily he was smart enough to bring it.
That's always been Rick, always a step ahead.

I grunted lightly as I opened the car door, exiting the car to the brittle air outside, it lashed against my cheeks as I gazed around, clipping the water to my hip, loosely gripping the canister in my hand
