"Luna."

You try and block his voice out. It's taking every ounce of your physical and mental strength. You're focusing so hard on keeping his voice out of your head that you can't even open your eyes. But there's no need to. You know his lips aren't moving.

But somehow, even though he's not uttering a single word, his deep voice is still present at the back of your mind. It's almost like he's standing behind you and whispering.

"Focus, Luna."

I am.

"You're not focusing hard enough."

You hear him start moving towards you, his boots making a clanking sound on the cold, metal floor. The noise distracts you. You let your mind wander;

Why were we even training in this room anyway? It's freezing cold. The Finalizer needs more rooms with heating.

"Luna. I'm not going to tell you again to focus." His tone is cautious now, even in your mind.

Get out of my head, Ren.

You feel your heartbeat quicken as you quickly try to scan his mind to see what he's planning on doing, why he's moving so close to you.

But you're not that good yet, definitely not good enough to read his mind.

"Oh no. Stay out of my mind," he says, and this time you hear him with your ears, not with your mind. "You would not like it there."

And just like that, he shuts you out. The tiny opening you were trying to work on, instantly clamps shut and you're left outside again, with no access to his thoughts.

Left to anticipate what he's  planning to do to you.

His tone softens. "I'm not going to hurt you."

You try your hardest to slow your heartbeat down, to not panic. You trust him. Know he's not going to hurt you. But that's the problem. You trust him too much. You're not afraid of him.

Shit.

You shift your efforts into making your mind a blank slate; one he cannot read anymore. You can't always control your thoughts around him, and let's face it, you didn't want him knowing all your thoughts.

"Smart girl." You can hear him smile, his deep voice failing to conceal it. You've known him long enough now to know what he finds amusing.

"What is so worth keeping from me that you're closing up your mind? I know it takes you much effort."

You open your eyes and see him standing a few inches in front of you, silently studying your features. He wasn't expecting you to open your eyes, and awkwardly takes a step back. He doesn't like to be this close to people when maintaining eye contact.

"Nothing. I just don't want you in my mind all the time. And it doesn't take me that much effort." You shift your weight onto one foot and cross your arms across your chest, feeling confident you've managed to keep him out of your head for this long. "I mean it's not fair, I hardly ever get a glimpse of what goes on in that overly-shampooed head of yours."

Kylo's face remains sullen. He squares his shoulders and runs his hand through his thick, black locks. "Watch it, Luna," he says in a flat tone, his eyes fixed on the distant stars zooming past the window to the left of you. His calm voice, one you rarely hear, raises the hairs on the back of your neck.

"I-I was only joking-"

And that's when you feel it.

An invisible force on your wrists, like metal handcuffs digging deep into your bones. As if having a mind of their own your wrists slam together, causing a ripple of pain as the bones slam into each other. You're then somehow dragged forward, your face inches away from Kylo's.

You don't try to resist it, even though you could have easily broken the invisible bond holding your wrists together. The last time you interfered when Kylo was teaching someone a lesson, things had not ended well.

"I don't do jokes when I'm training you." Kylo says, his hazel brown eyes boring into yours. Your eyes shy away from his, you drop your head down. You feel the invisible force again, this time pulling your head back up again, keeping it in place right below Kylo's. He's forcing you to look him in the eyes, he's trying to scare you, to intimidate you.

But you don't feel intimidated.

Fuck, Luna, control your thoughts. He can't know you're not-

Before you think anything else, you make your mind go blank again. He sighs, his breath hitting your face. "You're here as my apprentice. Not as my friend. I don't need friends."

And with that, he releases you, even though he wasn't even physically touching you. The force around you breaks, and you fall back onto the cold metal.

"You're not trying your best," he says angrily, while you're rubbing your wrists on the ground, at his feet. He turns away from you, his face hidden by the black hood of his robe. "You can't go weak, Luna!" he shouts.

You cower away from him, unable to stand up, pushing your legs against the floor to move away from him.

This is the only side to Kylo which truly scared you. His temper tantrums, his uncontrollable rage.

You see his hand hover over the metallic hilt of his lightsaber.

Your breath catches in your throat. You don't even dare breathe.

Instead, Kylo slams his fist onto the metal control table, and exhales. "Leave," he commands you through gritted teeth.

You scramble to your feet, rushing to the door and step out of the room, not looking back.

The last things you hear are his lightsaber whirring to life, and the sound of the control table being split into two.
