•Emmiey•

"Mommy, I don't think my tie can get any straighter than this," Tommy groaned as I fixed his tie for the one hundredth time.

"Are you sure? Maybe I should redo it -" I began to say, but my son cut me off.

"Mom, it looks fine," He said.

"Fiiine," I groaned, totally unconvinced.

Today is the fifth of September, and that means that Tommy officially starts grade school. He's attending Horizon View Academy.

"You look so handsome," I said, kissing his forehead.

"Well, with my good looks and all, I'm not surprise," He shrugged with a cheeky grin.

"Which you clearly got from me," I laughed.

"Dad says I got them from him," He said.

I scoffed. "Well your father is very incorrect."

Horizon View is a private academy and therefore requires students to wear the official school uniform which consists of a white button up shirt, a pair of grey school trousers, grey socks, black lace up shoes and a red blazer and tie.

After taking a billion and one pictures to send to my parents and saying goodbye to Lottie -who hadn't yet left for work, Tommy and I finally headed to the school.

When we got there, we found that Jack was already there waiting for us.

"Woah, champ. Look at you," He grinned at our son. "I wouldn't be surprised if all the girls in your class are pining after you."

"Yeah, you're not allowed to date till you're like fifty nine," I said, completely mortified at the idea of my son having a girlfriend.

After having a quick orientation with the rest of the first graders and the class teachers, the kids were split up into their different classes.

"Okay, remember that all of mine and your dad's numbers are in your homework diary and remember to give that letter I wrote to your teacher, okay?" I said to Tommy.

"Yup, I'll remember," He grinned.

"Okay, um, then have a good day and I'll pick you up at one," I said.

After Jack had said goodbye, I watched him get paired up with a blonde little girl as his buddy before he waved goodbye to us and then headed into his new classroom.

As Jack and I walked to our cars, I couldn't help but keep reminding myself to keep breathing normally and not burst into tears.

Tommy's officially in the first grade and soon enough he'll be in second, then third, and then next thing I know, it's the end of seventh grade and he's ready to go to High School and -oh my god.

"Emmiey? Are you okay?" Jack asked me.

Looking up at him through my glassy eyes, the sight of his gentle gaze caused me to break into sobs.

"Hey, come here," He said, pulling me into a hug and letting me cry into his chest. Thank god I had chosen to wear only waterproof mascara today.

"He's growing up so fast and next thing we know he'll have a girlfriend and then he'll be married and having kids of his own and then he'll move away from home and there's no way in hell that I'm ready for all of that," I ranted.

"Hey, don't worry about it," He said, rubbing circles on my back, "he's still gonna be under our care for another twelve years, hopefully more. And don't think about him growing up to fast. He's always gonna be your baby boy, okay?"

"Jack, he's starting first grade already. That's gonna go by so fast and soon enough he'll completely be uninterested -"

"Emmiey, don't think about all of that. We just gotta make the most of all the time we have," He said.

Looking up at him, I couldn't help but sigh. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

"You're a really good mom," He said, and then unconsciously kissed my forehead, something he always used to do when I was upset. "Oh, um, I'm sorry. I didn't mean -"

"No, um, it's -it's okay," I said, now looking down.

"So um, I'll see you tomorrow then," He said.

"Yeah," I nodded before we got into our cars.

On my way to work, I couldn't but think about what had just happened between Jack and I.

I mean, a kiss on the forehead doesn't really mean anything but...

Shaking the thought out of my head, I went to work and continued with my day as per usual.

*

At one o'clock, I picked Tommy up from school and on our way home (I'd just be dropping him off because Lottie's home), he spoke about his teacher and the friends he had made, including the blonde girl who's his buddy, Kara.

"And, I don't even have any homework," He way saying as we walked inside.

"Well someone got lucky today," Nate laughed as he walked into the living room.

"Uncle Nate!" Tommy cheered as Nate hugged him.

And then Johnson and Sam appeared from like out of nowhere.

"Okay, don't you all have album's coming out soon? Why are you at my house? You should be in studio or something," I scoffed at all of them.

"What? And miss our nephew telling us about his first day of grade school? I don't think so," Sam said, scoffing back at me.

"I baked a cake!" Lottie's voice shrilled from the kitchen. Of course she did. "And it's only for my favourite sister's child!"

"Only sister!" I called back.

A few moments later, Lottie entered, carrying a chocolate iced cake on a tray.

After having a slice, I needed to get back to the office.

"Don't burn my house down or you're all dead!" I called as I walked to the door.

"Except me!" Sam's voice sang.

"No, especially you, Wilkinson!"

MrsBieber2468 & caity_sukkowplang were complaining to me at break today that there haven't really been any Jemmiey moments in the book so far. Calm thy hormones. they're coming. this was just one if the many to come.
