Regina and Mal walked into the large marquee. Lanterns and fairy lights went from the ground to all the way up to the ceiling. The white fabric of the marque was thin enough to see the sky but thick enough to keep out rain. It was held up by poles and some ends propped against tress giving the effect the trees were part of it. Round tables with white table clothes were dotted around, leaving a large area for a dance floor in the centre. Most of the tables were already full with guests, some having plates of food from the large buffet which ran along one wall.
"Glad we dressed up." Mal said, as she looked around. Most woman were in long dresses. Makeup done to perfection, gowns fitting to perfection too.
"I thought it said small party?" But before Mal could answer both woman were wing embraced.
"Oh hi! It's so nice of you to come." They all embraced each other for a second before pulling back.
"Oh of course we did. It looks gorgeous." Mal beamed.
"Oh thank you, Gordon and I just can't help but through parties how and again. Listen I've got to run, but thank for coming!" She ran off in another direction to greet more guests.
"Listen I'm going to go find some people and mingle. Catch up with you in a bit?" Mal turned to Regina who nodded.
"Yea I'm going to get a drink." She nodded to the large bar and headed away.
As she passed large mirrors she couldn't help but check she looked alright. Mal had been the one who convinced her to wear this. The long red dress was tight around her torso, but then almost fishtailed out at the bottom, just showing her silver heels. Her lips were a bright red, matching the dress, and her eyes were a simple nude eyeshadow with a flick of a black wing. Her hair was curled softly and put into a low side bun. Once she'd decided everything was right, she continued to the bar.
As she walked she kept being stopped by strangers getting in her way.
"Excuse me...pardon me...sorry can I just squeeze through? Thanks...sorry I just have to..." This of course continued until she got to the bar. The bar which was crowded by a bunch of teenagers.
"Excuse me, but aren't you in my class?" Regina raised her brow at a tall blonde girl who went bright red and quickly rushed away along with her friends.
"Always trying to get any type of alcohol they can." A tall male stood at the bar shaking his head.
"I know, right? I can promise you she's not older than twenty one." She went forward and grabbed the seat next to him before anyone else could.
As the pair sat and spoke for a bit, each person came up for their drinks until Regina got questioned for hers.
"Water with ice please." She smiled as the young bartender walked away.
"Only water?"
"Yes, nothing more for me." She smiled.
"Let me guess, you're driving?" He smirked.
"Well, probably, yes but that's not the only reason." She watched the bartender carefully.
"What other reasons are there?" He was suddenly curious.
"Well that's not really your business is it? Thank you." She took a large sip from her drink.
"Oh come on, loosen up a little."
"It's not that I have to loosen up, I'm loose enough. How do you know anyone here anyway?"
"I've been a...family friend for the past few years." He nodded to the bartender, obviously wanting another drink.
"Oh really." She nodded, not bothering to question the ignorant man any further.
"What about yourself?"
"I teach one of their daughters. Although since they're moving away in the summer this will be my last year teaching her. She's a senior anyway, graduating this year."
"Yea I actually just heard they were moving. It's a shame."
"Well if you're such a close friend you'll stay in touch I presume?"
"Unlikely." He sighed and thanked the bartender for his next drink.
After that the conversation went dry. Neither talking for quite a bit, until Mal decided to show up again.
"Hey, Regi!" Mal, who was obviously quite drunk, stumbled across to Regina.
"Are you seriously drunk?"
"Only a lil bit!" She squinted and made a small gesture with her hands.
"Oh god, what do you want?"
"To ask if you're having a good time!"
"I'm having an amazing time, Mal." She sipped her drink and looked into the woman's eyes, her voice drawling.
"Good! Gooooood! I'm so happy for you! So, so happy! Listen am gonna go find some people, see you later alligator!" She waved off again an headed back to the crowded dance floor.
"Be responsible!"
Once Mal was safely out of earshot Regina heard the familiar voice from behind her.
"God what a mess." He shook his head.
"Excuse me?"
"No I'm sorry that was rude. It's just odd that you aren't drinking and she's already drunk."
"Yea, hilarious." She rolled her eyes and went back to her drink.
"Okay, I get it. Sorry." By the time he said this Regina had, had enough. He was cute and all but he never stopped. In all actuality it wasn't even him, it was Daniel that had her in a bad mood. He just seemed to push her over the edge, along with the loud music and loud party goers.
"Goodbye. Nice meeting you."
"Lovely meeting you, Regina."
She put her drink down and left, immediately going for Mal. Once she found her she dragged her away from the rowdy group she was with and took her to the door.
"Why're we leaving? I was having fun?" Mal shouted over the music, obviously not wanting to go.
"Because of the ass at the bar. And it's noisy. And I want to get back to Daniel." She pulled her into the nearest cab and gave her address.
"What guy?" Mal slumped against the backseat, Regina wouldn't be surprised if she passed out.
"The guy I was talking to..." She trailed off and looked to her for a response.
"What was his name again? Graham?" Mal rubbed her eyes, smearing her makeup slightly.
"No!" She lost her temper and sighed.
"Then what was it? I don't remember, all I remember was he was good looking." She shrugged again.
"Robin."

Uh oh, trouble in paradise already!
