Chapter 2

Josh’s POV

A girl was straddling my lap and we were making out. She already had her shirt off and mine as well. She wanted to take it further, but I got disgusted with her and moved her off of me. "What the hell?" she said in her annoying high pitched voice. She flipped her nasty blonde hair behind her back and her blue eyes were widened in confusion. I grabbed my black shirt from the floor and put it back on. "Listen, Sarah the Slut, all you were was a nice booty call but now I’m bored so hasta la vista." I said as her mouth dropped open and I headed towards the door. I heard her yell something else but I was too far away to hear it. I could have used my werewolf hearing but I didn’t care what she said. She was just a booty call to me and that’s all, but for a while she and every other female were disgusting me. I mean seriously they are always yelling at you if you do something wrong, throw stuff at you when they are on their "lady week". My thoughts were interrupted when I heard my father through the mind link, "Josh I need to see you in my office now."

I quickly jumped off the sidewalk and headed towards the forest where I completely shifted. My clothes ripped completely in half, and I ran to the pack house. I stopped on the edge of the forest before the pack house. I stopped by the tree we left extra clothes in and slipped on a pair of gym shorts and a white shirt. I ran up to the house and walked up the back steps. The house was three stories and had a basement and attic. The first floor had the theater room, kitchen, my father’s office, and two bedrooms. The second floor had more rooms that had connecting bathrooms. The final floor had a game room, master bedroom, and bath. Overall it was a freaking mansion but let me remind you it is a pack house so a lot of wolves live here. I walked in through the back door which was connected to the kitchen and ran into my mother.

"Hey, mom." I said as I walked by her and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.

I was about to leave the room when she said, "Hold it, mister." I took steps back so I could see her. Her light brown hair fell midway to her back, she was a little shorter than me, and right now her shiny green eyes were glaring at me. I looked totally different then her. I looked more like a younger version of my father. My hair is dirty blonde, my eyes a pale blue, almost gray, and I was at the brink of six foot.

"So did you find your mate today?" she asked me. I let out a breath that I didn’t know I had been holding, she looked at me in a curious way.

"What? Was that for me?" she asked me again as she turned back to what she was cooking.

"No, mom I haven’t. I guess my mate is somewhere far away." I said with a hint of depression in my voice. She didn't say anything else or I didn’t hear her because I went to my dad’s office which was the last door down the hallway.

I knocked on the door and quickly heard, "Come on in, son." I walked into the room and saw my father reading some papers on his desk. I looked around the room and noticed he had a new bookshelf brought in. The room was a tiny square and had one desk, two leather chairs in front of it, and the new bookshelf in the corner. I took a seat in one of the leather chairs and waited for my father to speak. He finally put the papers down, took off his glasses, rubbed his eyes, and then looked up at me.

My father looked a lot like me but his eyes were a dark deep blue unlike mine. He was also a little bit taller than me and had a five o’clock shadow. "So Dad, what did you need?" I asked as he leaned back in his chair.

"Well son, your mother and I are leaving to go to another pack’s territory to talk about the recent rogue sightings," he said as he rubbed his face and leaned back in his chair.

"Yes sir, I knew this already," I said, 'why is he calling me into his office for this?' I wondered.

"Did you also know I wanted you to take over tonight and tomorrow while we are gone?" he said as he looked up at me with surprise in his eyes.

"Umm.. I kind of thought I would be." I said in the nicest way I could. My father rubbed the back of his neck and said,

"Well then I guess everything is done here. You're dismissed son." I stood up, glancing between the door and my father. He was starting to worry me. He was staring down at the papers again and had a discouraged expression on his face.

I understood, rogues were nothing but bad news. They either fled their pack or were kicked out of their pack and now fended for themselves. The funny thing was that rogues look for each other so they kind of make their own pack. "Dad, are you okay?" I asked making his head shoot back up to look at me.

"Yeah, son I’m fine," he said as he looked back down at the papers.

"Okay, dad I think you need to relax for the rest of the night. Go hang out with Mom and your friends before you leave. I will handle this for you. I need to learn anyways since I'll be the Alpha soon," I said as I walked over and made him get out of the chair.

"What about the patrol for tonight?" he asked me.

"Call off the older men and I will set up my own patrol tonight. Just go have fun with your friends," I said as I patted him on the back.

"Okay fine, but promise me if something happens you will tell me," he said giving me a stern fatherly look.

"I promise dad," I said as I gave him one last pat on the back and he walked out of the door. He walked out of the door and as soon as the door was firmly closed Matthew mind linked me.

"Josh what’s going on? My father just walked in and said he, the Alpha, and the others were going out?"

"That’s right we are taking over tonight. I need you to get two teams: one to patrol the north side and the second to the south," I mind linked him back using a little of the Alpha tone.

Instantly Matthew mind linked back, "I’m on it and I will report back to you in your dad’s office."

"Thanks for the help," I linked back to him.

"Just doing my job," he linked back with a chuckle. I laughed a little too and then looked down at the papers my father had on the desk. All the papers had to do with rogues appearing in different territories. There had been three in the Dawn Pack, four in the Full Moon Pack, and almost ten in the Lunar Pack.

My mind was trying to fit these clues together, to find a pattern, but nothing came to me. I was about to search more things when Matthew mind linked me, "Josh, we have a rogue on the north territory line."

I growled and then mind linked back, "I’m on my way." I ran out of the front door of the pack house and shifted in midair. I ran towards the north part of our territory and was getting more and more mad as I drew closer. I couldn’t stand rogues, they were just delinquents. I was almost where Matthew was, I shifted behind a tree that had spare clothes.

I just threw on a pair of gym shorts and walked out to find a couple of my friends and my future Beta Matthew surrounding a covered up teenage boy. I sniffed the air and my nose was greeted by the most delicious smell ever. It was like cinnamon, mixed with a hint of vanilla, and forest. I wanted to know where the smell was coming from when my eyes landed on the teenage boy. My wolf instantly yelled, "Mate!" inside my head. I growled, "MINE!" and started towards the boy.
