Leo's POV

Josh finally stopped howling and when I looked back up he was growling at Blake. I stood up slowly and started walking towards Josh. He was still growling as I pet his fur. He stiffened but relaxed once he saw it was me. I wrapped my arms around him and whispered in his ear, "Relax, we need to talk about all of this together."

He sighed and then when I thought everything was going to be calm a deathly scream went throughout the air. I threw my hands over my ears, as I fell to the ground. Everyone around me in wolf form shifted back and lay naked on the ground. I felt tears come to my eyes as the scream continued and I knew without a doubt that it was banshees.

Josh's POV

I saw Leo fall to the ground first when the scream went through the air. The next thing I knew my body began trembling and I was back in my human form trying to fight the sound of the scream. The scream finally came to an end, fading into the background. My body starting to recover from the numbness, I stood up. My eyes traveled to Leo, to see his tear filled eyes and scared expression. I rushed over to him and pulled him into my arms.

"Shhh... it's over now," I whispered in his ear as I rubbed circles on his back.

He whined into my chest for a minute until he looked up at me and said, "What's going on?”

"What do you mean baby?" I asked as I kissed the top of his head,

"The screams, something has to be happening," he said as he looked up at me.

I didn't get to reply because a scratchy, scary voice came from outside, "Come now."

No one moved for a moment until the voice threatened to scream again and that's when everyone decided to exit the building. I quickly picked up some shorts that were laying on the ground and put them on. I caught back up with Leo and wrapped my arm around his waist as we made our way outside. As soon as we spotted them, the hair on the back of my neck stood up and I knew they were dangerous. Then I looked more closely as one stepped out into the moonlight. It looked like the same girl we saw in the woods, the screaming banshee.

"Banshee," I heard Leo say.

"Greetings, Alpha Josh, Alpha Marcus, Alpha Blake," the woman greeted us as she walked over.

The moon light reflected off her soft black hair, her dead blue eyes shined dully as she looked our way, and her movement were very fluid. She walked in front of Leo and I. I felt Leo stiffen against me but I quickly made him relax by rubbing his back. She stared at Leo and I briefly before making her way to Blake and Kalie. She stopped dead in her tracks as she looked at Blake and Kalie.

"You," the banshee said as she pointed at Blake.

"What about me?" Blake asked in a disrespectful tone.

"You were the one who wasn't supposed to make it," she said.

"What do you mean 'wasn't supposed to make it'?" Kalie asked stepping a little closer to Blake,

"As you know, a banshee's scream is a warning that somebody is going to die, well we do this to keep balance in the Order," she said.

"What's the Order?" Leo asked looking up at me.

"It's like the government of the United States but for the supernatural world," I replied to him.

He didn't say anything, he just turned back to listen to what else the banshee had to say.

"So, what does this have to do with me?" Blake asked.

"Don't you see Blake? You, were supposed to die," the banshee said with a hiss.

"What, no, what do you mean?" Kalie said as fear washed over her face.

"The Order knew he would die so the Balance could be sustained, but now the Balance has been disrupted," the banshee hissed out.

"What does that mean?" Leo asked.

The banshee's head spun around to him and replied, "If the Balance isn't restored, the Order could fall, if it does there is no doubt that a war will break out, families fighting for their lives, children forced to pick between killing or dying, blood will flow freely in the streets, and the world as we know it will be plunged into utter chaos.” she paused for a moment, letting what she had just said sink in and then continued, “Which, as you can imagine, would be nearly impossible for anyone or anything to stop if it does happen."

"So Blake has to die for it?!" Kalie shrieked.

The banshee turned her head with a little laugh as some of her fellow banshees came to her. She looked straight at Kalie and laughed a little harder. I could tell it was freaking Leo out, but he tried to remain as calm as possible.

"Little girl, Blake doesn't have to die but someone here must to restore the Balance," she said with a chuckle.

The forest fell silent and no one moved. It felt like time froze once those words left her mouth. I could feel the terror in Leo build and I thought he might break down but he stayed strong.

Then with a chuckle and a hiss the banshee said, "Any volunteers?"
