Chapter 3

Leo’s POV

I had been awake all night just waiting for Haley to come in and Haley only. I don’t know if I could handle my father, Alpha Rogers, or Blake tonight. I had no clock in my room so I didn’t know when one o’clock would come around. Then I heard something in my head I hadn’t heard in forever, "She’s close." At first I didn’t know what it was then I remembered it was the sound of my wolf. Our wolves would always speak to us and try to help. Our emotions are connected to our wolves so when someone pisses us off they want to surface. On other occasions, when you’ve been beaten, broken, and not fed to gain energy your wolf breaks with you.

"Nice to hear from you again," I said with a smart-ass tone.

"Not my fault I’m so weak," my wolf replied whimpering at the end.

"It’s not my fault they did this to us. I’m barely strong enough to stand up." I said snapping back at my wolf. I heard him whimper back and then silence until I heard the door knob turn. I backed up on the bed till I hit the wall as the door swung open. I saw the red hair before anything else and relaxed. Haley walked into my room and I could see the panic when I finally saw her face.

"Haley, what’s wrong?" I asked her as I stood up.

"They… they know I’m coming for you. Come on we need to go now," she said as she grabbed my hand and rushed to the door. We flew out of the house and started to run down an alley way. The alley got smaller and smaller until we reached the end. I didn’t see the bike and looked at Haley in confusion. She looked back at me and laughed a little.

"I thought you were bringing me a bike?" I asked still looking around.

"Well I didn’t think you would have the energy so I upgraded," she said as she walked over to other side of the alley. She stopped and I saw a car, already started and waiting in the alley. I was still staring when I heard growls and heavy feet coming our way. Haley let go of my hand, looking over her shoulder in the direction that the noise was coming from.

"Go. There is food, money, and extra clothes in there. Go Leo now," she said and pushed me towards the car.

I ran to the car and then looked back at Haley, she had turned away from me and was looking into the alley where the noises were coming from. She shifted into wolf form as soon as they started to appear. I was worried for her but I realized I had to hurry up because I saw Blake. He growled at me and began coming towards me but Haley slammed him into a wall to keep him from getting to me. I hopped into the car and slammed on the gas. I looked in the rear view mirror to see Haley running away, and then to see her being dragged back into the pack house in human form.

"She risked her life for us," I told my wolf.

"Don’t worry. She is brave and we owe her," my wolf replied as I glancing into the rear-view mirror to make sure nobody was following me.

"What are we going to do?" I asked my wolf.

"Head up north towards the Midnight Sun Pack but ditch the car at the next motel. You need to shift, a car is far too easy for them to follow," my wolf replied.

"Are you sure you can handle it?" I asked with a worrying tone.

"Once you eat something and rest at the motel, I will be ready," my wolf replied, a little annoyed at me asking so many questions.

I never replied I just kept driving, waiting for a motel to appear. I finally reached the next motel and was parking the car behind it when I heard someone through my mind link.

"Leo listen to me. Where are you?" Blake asked using his 'Alpha' tone.

I instantly put blocks around my mind so they couldn’t get in but being so drained and hungry it hurt to keep them up.

I quickly found a room that no one was using and broke into it. After that was done I ate half the food Haley packed me, then I headed to the bathroom with the new clothes she got me. I turned the hot water on all the way and stepped in. The warmth surrounded my body and I let out a small quiet moan. It had been forever since I had a shower like this. My father would force me into the shower with him…. I stopped in the middle of my thought. I didn't want to remember the rest. I was going to try my hardest to forget about him and my old pack. I just lied to myself. No matter how hard I tried, I knew that the memories would never fade, and the scars they left would remain. I started to cry and curled into a ball in the bathtub.

After the long shower, I got out, only because the water grew cold and my wolf told me we need to hurry up and go. I ate another snack Haley had packed in the bag, and then tied the bag around my left leg so I would have it once I shifted back.

I left the room and headed towards the woods. Once I was deep enough in the forest, I shifted and let my wolf take over. He was excited when I shifted. My wolf hasn’t been out in years. I couldn't even remember what he looked like anymore. When your wolf was in control it felt like you were looking out and just watching a movie. I relaxed my mind and just watched.

We had been running for a while when I felt the wind shift. My wolf let me take back control and I knew we had arrived in the Midnight Sun’s territory. I didn’t cross the line, I waited instead. I used my wolf hearing to hear if anyone was close and sure enough I heard people headed my way.

"What do I do?" I asked my wolf.

I got no answer and then they were there. There were at least five of them, all of them were male. I could tell by the size of the wolves. I was a male but my wolf was smaller than most. These wolves were huge, the one in the middle went to shift behind a tree. He came back with a shirt and told me to shift. His black hair shined under the moon light, and his green eyes were very bright. He wasn’t bad looking either but I reminded myself that I am not going to trust men again.

"Should I trust him?" I asked my wolf.

"Yes, he’s the Beta. The Alpha will be called soon," my wolf replied to me.

Without another word I walked behind a tree and slipped on the oversized shirt that fell below my knees. I was shorter than most guys but I was really short compared to a wolf. I was 5’4 maybe 5’5 but still short. I walked back to the territory line and felt the Alpha approaching. I curled up into a ball on the line and waited. I didn’t look up but the most intoxicating smell hit me. It smelled like the forest, honeysuckle and maple wood. I looked up and my eyes instantly fell onto a pair of pale blue eyes but they quickly turned black with lust. I heard him yell, "MINE!"

My wolf instantly replied in my head, "Mate."
