Demons? I had heard a lot about them but never did they care about us so far. We peacefully coexisted since we were created, we barely even saw each other so there had been rumors that demons are just myths but they weren't. They spent most of their time in hell but they were just as real as we are.
During my whole life time I only met one demon to this point and neither of us cared what the other one is. I walked passed him and his eyes turned black, but only for me - only angels see their black eyes constantly. They have to hide their eyes from humans just like we have to hide our wings, which demons can always see - archangels are an exception. They can decide whether a demon or an angel sees their wings or not.
When I walked past the demon nothing happened. In movies we would be fighting because we are "enemies" but we're not. We're just doing our jobs.At least we, the angels, usually were doing our jobs. Demons didn't seem to be interested in doing their job.
It would have been their job to bring Lucifer to hell right when he fell but they never did and now it was too late because his wings had grown back - still something must have changed. They must have had a reason to try to get Cupid and I needed to know which."Why would they try to get you?" I asked while closing the door. Afterwards I walked back to his bed and sat down on a wooded chair right beside it.
Cupid sighed and pushed himself a bit up so he was sitting straight. He looked at me for a moment and then he answered "I'm sorry but who are you actually?"
This wasn't the thing I was hoping to hear but he deserved to know "I'm Azrael - angel of death."
"I knew you are an angel. I can still see your wings a bit, but they are barely visible to me." He smiled at me "Nice to meet you, sister."
"It's also nice to meet you. So, would you mind explaining to me what happened?"
"Yeah. Yeah, sure." he scratched the back of his neck and looked worried at me "I don't know what made them chase me. I've been walking home and suddenly someone dragged me into a side street - it was a demon, I could see his black eyes a bit. He said his boss said he should bring me where I belong, but I know Luce wouldn't do that."
"What happened then?" I asked without questioning anything he said so far. I knew I wouldn't stop thinking about it in the end anyway because I wanted to know what exactly is going on.
"I wanted to run away, because even though I deserved to fall I don't want to do to hell. The demon caught me and tried punching me unconscious but suddenly someone walked in the street and pulled him away from me. I ran away and got here because I knew it's save in a hospital - and someone needed to stitch my wounds." He chuckled lightly at his last comment but the rest of the time he was completely serious.
"Oh." That was the only thing I managed to say. It was terrible what happened to him but I didn't understand why it happened. I knew Lucifer didn't tell them to do so because he wasn't even in hell - it was impossible. There has to be someone who suddenly changed his mind about bringing the fallen angels to hell.
All in sudden it hit me - it was completely off topic but I had an idea. It wasn't about demons but about my problem. Cupid was a fallen angel. Not an angel, which means I could ask him to help me getting Cassiel back without being worried he would tell our siblings.
Furthermore it was a good idea because Cupid was the angel of love. He was there to help those who are in love and to help them fall in love. I knew he wouldn't say no because this is about love.I decided to explain everything to him that happened. I told him about Cassiel. I told him how I met Cas, how we fell in love and how he died while Cupid listened to me in awe of this tragic love story and of course I told him that I tried to get him back but Gabriel stopped me. And then I told him about my plan.
This dumb plan.
My new plan, which definitely could have been much better, was that Cupid distracts Gabriel by telling him about the demons and begging for help - which would be good for Cupid if he decides to help him - and meanwhile I'd visit heaven and bring Cas back.
Cupid frowned but then his face lit up and he nodded "I'll help you."
"Really?" I gasped surprised even though I expected this answer.
"Sure. It's my job to do so." He winked. "When do you want to fulfil your plan and where?"
"In two days at my house? I want to give your wounds a bit time to heal." I replied.
"Great. I'll be there." He smiled and then he stood up while groaning silently.
I go up as well and took a piece of paper. After writing my address on it I handed it to him and he thanked me - even though I should thank him.
He smiled and after we said goodbye he left the room.I walked out of the room and took the rest of my time to help other patients before heading home to enjoy the rest of my evening. I felt relieved because I knew in two days I'd get Cas back so I sat down on my couch. I took a book I started reading a while ago and pulled a thin blanket over me and then I spent the rest of the night with reading my book.
