My mood was still sour when we reached the mansion. It wasn't that far from my home. Just a five minutes drive.

Evan parked the car and got out. What I wasn't expecting him to do was open my door and help me get out.

"Thank you," I said.

He just nodded. No sassy remark.

He held out his arm for me to grab and led me to the entrance.

He stopped just before we entered and turned to look at me.

"I didn't mean to start the evening like this. I didn't mean any- most of the things I said," he said.

Do I hear an apology coming from the Ice King?

"Is it an apology?" I said in amusement. I had never heard anything even close to an apology coming from him before. Never.

He glared at me. I chuckled and shook my head.

"So, we're cool?" he asked.

"We're cool."

As we entered the hall I heard gasps.

I looked up to see what was the matter but I felt more confused when I realized most of the people were staring at us. Most of them were from our school accompanying their parents.

Even people found it hard to believe that Evan came with a girl.

"Why are they staring?" I whispered.

He smirked. "Because you look gorgeous," he said.

I looked down to hide my blush.

"I think it's because of you," I said.

"You think I look hot?" he asked.

"No... I think," I looked at him and his eyebrow was raised. "Well that and the fact that you brought a date," I told him.

"That's ridiculous," he said. "Not the hot part, though," he added.

We spent most of our time socializing with people. Well, me socializing and Evan would be somewhere hating them from far away. This was the main reason to attend these events. To make connections. It was an important part of becoming successful in business. Then Evan and I parted ways to talk to different people. Well, I would talk to different people he would just go somewhere and be lazy. I told him to stay with me but apparently, he hated talking to anyone more than he liked to hang out with me.

I congratulated Mr. and Mrs. Summers for their anniversary. At some point, I found my dad surrounded by women. I shook my head at him. He noticed me and winked. I let out a giggle and went to find a place to sit. My feet hurt from standing for so long. Evan was nowhere in sight. I needed to find him too. He was my ride home.

"That's Theodore's daughter," I heard Mrs. Summers voice and turned around. She smiled at me.

"Ellie, this is my daughter Rachel," she pointed at the girl beside her. She was wearing a pearl pink chiffon gown. "You must know her from school. She went there a couple years ago," she said to me.

"Hi," I said sweetly. Of course, I knew her. The former queen bitch of our school. The one I met in the mall a few weeks ago who threw herself on Asher. Literally.

"Hi," she said checking out my gown. From the looks of her, she remembered me too.

"I'll let you girls talk," Mrs. Summers said and went to attend other guests.

I stood there awkwardly. I didn't know what to say to her.

"I like your dress. Where did you get it?" she asked. Anyone could tell from her tone that wasn't what she wanted to ask. I decided to answer her anyway. But before I could say anything she spoke again.
