It felt peaceful to finally be at my home again. Dad came back late last night and left for an emergency meeting in the morning. I didn't get time to talk to him much but he promised to take me on dinner as soon as he got off work. I was counting on it. I really missed him and I also wanted him to meet someone.

The doorbell rang and I went to open the door. Evan was standing there with his hands stuffed in his black jeans pockets. He always seemed to wear something black.

He greeted me with a warm smile which I returned.

I opened the door wider for him.

"Hey," I said a bit awkwardly. I didn't know how to act after he announced that I was his girlfriend in front of the whole school. I understand why he did it, but honestly it wasn't necessary. I could've handled it just fine.

I didn't know what to expect after that. Would he really want me to be his girlfriend now that everyone thought I was? Would I want that?

"We need to talk," he finally said those dreaded words.

"Yeah," I muttered and led him to the kitchen. Before he came I was making some cookies and the dough was still kept on the counter. I took some with my fingers and tasted it. I couldn't help myself. It was my favorite part of the whole process.

When I looked up with a satisfied smile on my face, I saw Evan looking at me weirdly.

"What?"

"That's gross," he said pointing at the gooey dough.

"It's delicious," I countered. "Want a taste?"

He looked at it weirdly. I couldn't imagine he had never tasted cookie dough before.

"Nah. I think I'll pass," he said.

"Oh come on. You'll love it," I said.

He raised an eyebrow.

"Really," I said and grabbed a spoonful and handed it to him.

He took it, stared at it suspiciously before dropping more than half of the dough on the bowl. I rolled my eyes.

"Go on," I prodded.

He sighed, as if he didn't have any other choice. Well, he didn't because today he wasn't leaving without falling in love with cookie batter.

Evan took his time, but as soon as he tasted it his gray eyes light up. I knew instantly he liked it.

"Did you like it?" I couldn't keep the excitement from my voice.

He nodded. "It isn't bad," he said, pretending to sound bored.

I scoffed.

He reached for another scoop but I snatched the bowl and glared at him.

"Fine. It was good. Happy?"

"Just good?" I raised my eyebrow while keeping the bowl away from his reach.

"Okay, it was scrumptious. Now let me have more," he said.

I chuckled.

"Way to be pretentious, Evan. But no can do. I need this to make cookies," I said and moved to take out a tray.

"Hand me the butter paper, will you?" I said.

He looked around before finally spotting it lying just beside his hand that was resting on the countertop.

"Here," he said, giving me a cheeky grin.

He watched me silently as I made cookies and helped whenever I asked for something. It was... nice and I realized I didn't mind having him around like this. In fact, I liked it a little too much.
