Staring down at the parcel he tried not to panic. Something Ginny would do.

He brought it back to the table where he was previously sitting at and set it down next to his unfinished letter to Ginny. He figured he might as well finish it and send it her way or maybe he was trying to procrastinate on opening the other letter that had just come for him.

Draco continued to scribble down the remaining of his thoughts and such onto the letter. Soon enough, it was quickly out the common room portrait and hopefully on it's way to her very hands.

After what seemed like a long while, staring at the now closed portrait he shifted his feet nervously and got to the table again. He knew he had to open it, he knew that his father was to scold him for not having written back to his last very important letter. Draco was surprised he had ignored such a big request from his father and the dark lord himself.

It was then when Draco came to the realization that this was the feeling he felt. He felt fearless, and it was Ginny who had brought that out in him for he had never felt so courageous before she crept into his life.

Ginny Weasley, the girl with the red hair and the firey attitude had taught Draco something he would from then on until the last of his days, never not be grateful for.

To be brave.

With that in mind, he snatched the package from the table, collected his feather and ink bottle and made his way upstairs into his dormitory. If he was to do this he didn't want anyone snooping.

Draco slipped into the dark room quietly, the snores of Crabbe and Goyle filling the air. This time Draco made sure he didn't trip over any of Goyle's shoes. He opened his trunk which lay at the foot of his bed and grabbed another piece of parchment out of his school bag and made his way into his bed and drew the curtains.

He sat with his legs crossed and gathered both the parcel he had received some time ago from his father which was safely hidden in his pillowcase and the one he had received tonight.

"Lumos."

Draco grazed his finger against the texture of the red stamps on both of them and frowned with distaste. There was no backing out now.

He opened the most recent one first. Just like the previous one, it contained two letters. This time, one of them was from his mother. Her cursive handwriting tugging at his heartstrings. He fumbled with the letter quickly trying to open it with shaky hands.

"Dear Draco,

Where ever you might be my boy, I hope to Merlin you are okay. Your father and I have been so deeply worried.

Please Draco give us a sign, if not for him, for me. I miss you and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes that you've decided to lose contact with us due to the condition of things. I know that the preposition your father has placed in front you in might be the toughest you've ever known, but he'll kill us both if you fail to succeed.

I love you until the very death of time, son.

Write back to me as soon as possible for things are stirring up over here at the manor.

Help us, Draco. Please.

— With everlasting love, Mum."

Draco put the letter down and wiped hot, heavy tears from his now blotchy face.

The mere image of his mother feeling so lonely had never occurred to him before. He let out the faintest of whimpers as he glanced back at her effortless handwriting. And as much as he did not want to be proceeded to open the previous letter which had been from his father, containing another from the dark lord himself which was to be translated from what seemed like parsel tongue to English.
