Bucky had never thought someone would truly love him. He never thought anyone would be there for him, through thick and thin. He wanted someone to love, to hug, to tell him everything would be okay even if it wouldn't; he needed that reassurance. Obviously, nobody would love him because of what he's done, but he's a changed man, he thinks so anyway.

When meeting new people, he reminded himself constantly not to tell them he's an 'ex-assassin and Super Soldier with a metal arm'. It sometimes pushes them away instead of pulling them in. But when he met (Y/N), a friend of Steve's, he was awestruck. His jaw hung below his chin, revealing his whole mouth, and he felt something inside of him, something of a new feeling for him.

"Buck, this is (Y/N). (Y/N) this is Bucky"

"Hi" she waved shyly at the Super Soldier. She had heard from Steve that he was a good guy and what had happened to him. Unbeknown to Steve, and Bucky, (Y/N) was falling in love with Bucky with every word that escaped Steve's mouth.

"Oh, erm, h-hi" Bucky waved back. 'Where's your charm, Barnes?' He mentally slapped himself for being a wimp.

"I'll leave you two to, erm, mingle" Steve walked off embarrassed at what he said. After he left, the two stood in silence, neither of them daring to speak.

"So, erm, (Y/N). How are you?"

"I'm good, thanks. You?"

"Good." There was a long silence before Bucky spoke up again.

"God, why does Steve have such awkward friends?" He chuckled and (Y/N) giggled slightly as well.

"I don't know" (Y/N) sighed.

"So tell me about yourself" Bucky smiled as he started walking to the couch. She was a good one, he could feel it.

After a long chat, the two were laughing as Steve walked in.

"Hey, how's it going" Steve sat down in between them. Bucky and (Y/N) burst into laughter for no particular reason, just some quick eye contact and they were gone.

"What? What did I do?" Steve asked, confused.

"N-nothing S-Steveee" (Y/N) said while laughing.

"Ju-just nothing." Steve huffed, annoyed that his friends were getting along well, and he wasn't involved in their jokes.

"Okay then, bye guys" he stood up and left.

"B-bye Steve" they said together, still laughing.

It had been 6 weeks since they first met. Since then, Bucky and (Y/N)'s relationship had grown and they could survive anything together. Bucky's feelings had grown strong for (Y/N) and (Y/N)'s had grown for him.

Bucky was laying of the sofa watching TV. It was his 'off' day where he could relax and enjoy not doing anything. (Y/N) strolled in when he was asleep. She saw his sleeping figure and gently sat near his head, being as quiet as she could. She started combing her fingers through his long, soft hair and whispered,

"I love you James, so much. When Steve told me about you, I feel in love with every word about you. I know you probably don't feel the same, but I needed to tell you. You look so peaceful and adorable like this. I love you James Buchanan Barnes, so much" she kissed the top of his head and left him sleeping.

Bucky stirred and raised his head of the sofa, missing the feeling of someone stroking his hair. Only (Y/N) did that and he wondered why she was there. He got up and went to her room, finding her sat on her phone.

"What did you want? I felt you while I was asleep"

"You didn't hear?" She frowned.

"No"

"I love you" she said shyly.

"I love you too, my queen"
