"I'm going to kill him." Beck snarled as she stomped back to her cabin. Well, her former cabin. "Freaking Poseidon? God of the sea? Ugh!"

"You don't seem very happy with this." Aaron noted.

"Because I'm not!" Beck snapped at him. "A daughter of Poseidon who can't swim? Who's afraid of water, even? I might as well kill myself now!"

The son of Hermes surged forward and grabbed her arm. "Don't ever say that."

Beck glared up at him and tried to shake her arm loose.

"You're a demigod." Aaron continued, deadly serious for once. "We die young. Don't shorten your life more than the fates do."

"Done with your pep talk?" Beck asked acidly.

"Jeez, you and Percy are going to get along fantastically."

Percy. Beck had totally forgotten about him. She wondered how he'd react to his new little sister. She pulled her arm away from her friend and resumed her angry march towards the cabin.

"Want me to help you move your things over?" Aaron offered.

"No." Beck snapped. It's not like I have much to move anyway, she thought as she shoved open the door to the Hermes Cabin and grabbed the bag of clothes Chiron had somehow gotten from her mom.

"Beck, it's not the end of the world." Aaron insisted as she pushed past him at the door.

"For you."

"You are so difficult. You were claimed! That calls for celebrations and stuff! It's an important part of a demigod's life!" Aaron followed her across the grass between the main cabins.

"Oh I understand that. But all I see is myself becoming an outcast." Beck snapped back. "I can't even control my powers! And I'm not going to gain control over them because I refuse to go near water! When I finally meet my dad I'm gonna slug him so hard..."

"You're going to punch a god?" Aaron's voice held notes of surprise and disbelief. Beck turned to see him watching her with a raised eyebrow.

"As hard as I can."

"You're insane."

"He left my mom and I to fend for ourselves for 16 years. He has it coming." She reached the unfamiliar coral covered blue cabin and stopped. Even seeing it made her stomach turn. She could hear running water inside, which didn't help her hesitation.

Aaron reached her and stepped forward, opening the door. The salty smell of the ocean emanated from inside. Beck could see several unused beds, a single one on the far side of the room from the door had sheets on it, sheets that were in total disarray.

On the wall opposite the door was a huge fountain, which seemed to be the source of the sea-breeze smell. Beck scowled at it and dumped her bag on the bed right next to the door and therefore as far away from the accursed thing as she could possibly be.

"I'm not allowed to be in here with you alone, so I'm going to go. Are you coming to campfire?" Aaron asked.

"No." Beck said flatly. Going to campfire would just remind her of the small fires she and her mom would have on the roof of their apartment, where they roasted marshmallows and stargazed. Not that they could see much with all the New York pollution and lights.

"Alright. Goodnight then."

Beck didn't answer. She heard Aaron sigh quietly and listened as his worn tennis shoes crushed the grass while he walked away from the cabin.

She quickly put her sheets on the bed and spread her TARDIS blanket-a gift from Holly two years ago-over the top. She pulled the tank top and shorts that served as her pajamas from her bag and quickly changed, stuffing the clothes she had been wearing that day into into the bag then shoving it under her bed. Once again snuggling into Alex's sweatshirt, she curled up and tried to sleep.

Morpheus evaded her. Beck stared at the wall in front of her and counted the small shells that outlined the window, losing track of time. She wanted to cry, to scream, to do something. She wanted to go home, she wanted to see her friends again, she wanted this to be a dream that she would wake up from and quickly forget.

"Everybody wants something." She murmured aloud. "But they can't have it unless they work for it."

A part of her considered running. Packing a bag and sneaking into the forest before campfire was over.

Footsteps sounded on the front steps and Beck closed her eyes. The door opened and she felt eyes on her for a few moments. It must have been Percy, no one else slept in the cabin.

He sighed audibly and moved over to his bed. She heard fabric rustling quietly and decided he was probably getting ready for bed.

"I know you're awake." He said softly. His deep voice reverberated slightly off the walls. "If you want to talk, I'm going to be awake for a while."

Beck didn't answer. He sighed again and she resisted the urge to see what he was doing.

"Goodnight, Beck." He said.

She squeezed her eyes tighter closed, but mentally wished him goodnight as well.

I could have worse half-siblings.
