By the time Clarisse's quest returned, Beck was actually feeling quite comfortable in the camp. She had taken to hanging out with Will and Nico, Piper and Jason, and generally just third wheeling with the friends she had made. It seemed that the only person she knew that was single was Michael.

The son of Apollo was extremely focused on training her in throwing knives. He tried to train with her as much as he possibly could, which Beck didn't mind.

It was nice to have something to do that took her mind off of how her mother and friends were doing. Every time she was left alone to her thoughts, her stomach would twist and she would get extremely homesick. Mostly for her friends, to be honest.

The cry went up around noon. "The quest is back!"

Beck jumped to her feet, racing to the border.

Clarisse was pushing through the crowd. She didn't seem happy, but then again, she never really did.

Percy and Annabeth walked behind her, hand in hand. Percy spotted Beck and waved, she smiled and returned the gesture.

"Hey, Princess, been keeping up with your training?" Clarisse asked as she passed.

"Of course." Beck rolled her eyes at the nickname.

"Why don't you prove it?" The daughter of Ares seemed itching to fight, maybe their quest had been too quiet for her taste.

Beck nodded. "Gladly."

Clarisse shoved a tiny boy out of her way and continued on towards the arena. People finally began to get the picture and move out of her way, which let them move a lot quicker.

"Before we spar, I wanna show you something." Beck grinned. She had finally talked to Nyssa about testing that prototype that the daughter of Hephaestus had created, and it worked like a charm.

"Fine, but make it quick." Clarisse retorted.

"Yeah yeah, hold your horses." Beck laughed as she retrieved the small baton.

"What's that? A cheerleading stick?" The burly girl teased. "Knew it."

"Not a cheerleader." Beck retorted, though she was smiling. "Watch." She flicked her wrist and the baton elongated itself into a sleek bronze bo staff.

Clarisse looked unimpressed. "But can you work with it?"

Beck nodded. She'd been practicing with it rather than her old staff.

"Let's see it." Clarisse grabbed her spear, which she never seemed to be without, and lunged forward.

Twenty grueling minutes later, Beck succeeded in knocking the electrified spear out of it's owner's hands. "Hah!" She barked, jabbing Clarisse in the stomach.

The daughter of Ares doubled over with a grunt and Beck backed off, letting her recover.

"Not bad." Clarisse commented once she'd caught her breath and could stand up straight again. "Let me see it?"

Beck handed it over and Clarisse twirled it around a couple times, handling it like she would her spear. Finally she gave a low, appreciative whistle and handed it back. "So who made that for you?"

"Nyssa, with a little help from one of the daughters of Hecate, I think." Beck flicked her wrist again and the bo staff turned back into it's baton form. She tapped it against her wrist and it morphed into a small bracelet. "I'm not one for jewelry, but this is okay."

Clarisse nodded. "Y'know, even if I didn't expect you to be the way you are, I could have guessed you aren't a jewelry kind of girl, princess."

"What did you expect me to be like?"

"Cheerleader."

Beck rolled her eyes. "For the last time, I am a dancer. If it's the blonde hair fooling you I'll point out that it's not my natural hair color."

"Oh really? What's the natural color?"

"A dark brown, basically black." Beck shrugged.

"So you're saying you look more like Percy than it seems." Clarisse nodded. "I was wondering about that."

Beck nodded after a moment. She hadn't really thought about how she and Percy looked compared to each other, but she guessed if her hair was still it's natural color, she would look pretty similar to him.

"So it was the hair that confused you." She finally said with a smirk. "You seem pretty easy to confuse."

Clarisse glared at her. "You know I can and will grind you into a pulp, Princess."

"Oh of course. But I've told you that my best fought battles aren't with blades."

"You don't carry a blade."

"You know what I mean." Beck shrugged.

Clarisse rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever Princess..."

"You ready for round two?" Beck asked, gesturing to Clarisse's abandoned spear.

The daughter of Ares glanced at the spear, then back at Beck. "How about we try something new." She grinned.

Beck recognized that grin. That was the grin Clarisse gave people when she was planning on making the next hour of their lives a living hell.

"Hand to hand." Clarisse said simply, bringing her fists up to the classic boxer position.

Beck knew this wouldn't end well. She wasn't very good with hand to hand combat yet, and Clarisse had that look in her eyes that promised a lot of pain.

Was she scared? A little bit.

Was she going to accept the challenge? Absolutely.

"You're on."
