Chapter 8

Savannah's POV

Hunter grabbed my hand and we walked out of her house. I guess I'll have to text Kenzie later and explain why I left.

I was happy to know that Hunter brought his car this time.

I was beginning to feel attached to Hunter. I couldn't explain it.

I climbed in and he placed his hand on my thigh, causing my breath to hitch.

He chuckled at my reaction.

I worked up the confidence to grab his hand and run my finger over the cuts on his knuckles.

He tensed at first but then relaxed.

I looked at his beautiful face and realized a bruise forming under his eye and a deep cut along the side of his face, opposite of where his scar was.

"How many fights have you been in?" I stated softly.

He didn't respond. Plus, he had some serious anger issues.

"It doesn't matter." Hunter said, his grip on the steering wheel tightening. His eyes turned cold which made me shiver and I faced the window.

"I-I'm sorry." I said quietly. He sighed.

The rest of the car ride was silent. I could tell he was thinking, by the way he stared out into the road.

He pulled up next to my house, and he walked me up the steps.

I brushed my fingers past the side of his face.

He was so perfect.

If only he had a better temper.

He brought his hand up to my cheek and caressed it. My face heated up with his touch.

He took my hands in his and he gave me a long, passionate kiss, which left me breathless. I went on my tiptoes and wrapped my arms around his chest. My head was easily tucked into his neck as he hunched over me.

He mumbled something against my lips that said "I'll always protect you Savannah Winters."

He rested his forehead against mine and said "I'll see you tomorrow."

I waved goodbye at him.

Hunter's POV
I waited until she was inside the house to drive off.

Why was I falling so hard for her?

I guess it was her smile. The way she laughed. Not like those girly giggles but she laughed like she meant it.

You have to spend a day with her to see what I mean.

I loved the way she scrunched up her nose when she was confused about something or the way her cheeks turned a slight pink whenever I was around her.

She always had a strawberry-scent that I loved and she always enjoyed the little things in life.

I was determined to get to know her more.

I hated myself knowing I would let her go soon. She didn't belong with me, she deserved happiness.

'Shame on me' I thought to myself. I wanted this thing between us to last, until she headed off to college.

I took out a cigarette and lit it, blowing out the window.

Savannah's POV

I walked into the dark house, making my way up the stairs into my room.

I can't stop thinking about Hunter. He was different from all the guys. I actually trusted him even though I didn't know him that well.

He made me feel safe and I liked knowing that.

When I was with him, nothing else mattered. It was just me and him. I would forget about the fact that he was dangerous and a troublemaker. But my heart longed to be close to him and enveloped in his warmth.

I snapped out of my thoughts once I realized I needed to call Kenzie.

I dialed her number but she didn't respond so I sent her a text saying I left the party earlier.

"Savannah? I thought I heard someone come in." My mother's voice said as she entered my room.

Her hair was pulled up into a messy ponytail and she had on her pajamas, which made her seem a little younger. She had the same small frame as me.

"How was the party?" She came over and sat on the edge of my bed.

"It was fine. Although I don't think I'm going to anymore." I give her a small smile.

"Who was that boy?" My mother asked curiously, stroking my hair.

"His name is Hunter. He's in my biology class." I said snuggling into her. Her scent seeped in through my nostrils.

I loved my mother so much. She was the only person I had after my dad died. But my mom became VERY protective of me.

"His name his Hunter." I told her. My stomach sank. Did she see our kiss? Even worse, his tattoos?

"He seems nice." She said, although I knew by the tone of her voice she didn't approve.

I sighed into her shirt.

"Invite him over to dinner one day, I would love to get to know him." She said getting up from my bed.

I just nodded.
i was thankful it was dark out so she couldn't see his bruises or the scar on his cheek.

I slipped into the covers and buried my face into my pillow thinking
'What a day.'

***

I woke up with a groan. Today was Saturday and my mom was supposed to be out doing errands and whatnot. Normally, she wouldn't come home until dinner time.

I brushed my hair and changed into some shorts and a t-shirt after i brushed my teeth.

Sunlight was streaming in from the windows and I was a little bit happy. As you can probably tell, I'm a morning person.

I sat down on the couch and started my homework for about an hour until I heard the doorbell ring.

I jumped from the couch and ran over to it, opening the door.

"Hunter!" I hugged him. As crazy as it sounds I missed him.
